ET-208 Big Button Fashion Phone (430-0807) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 31234 CONNECTING THE HANDSET CORD Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the jack on the phone handset. Then plug the other end into the jack on the left side of the phone. NOTE: Your local Radio Shack store sells longer, coiled handset cords. CONNECTING TO THE TELEPHONE LINE The ET-208 comes with modular plugs. To connect the phone to a modular jack, plug the supplied phone cord into the jack on the back of the phone. Then plug the other end of the cord into a modular jack. NOTE: If you do not have a modular phone jack, you can either update the wiring yourself or have the phone company update it for you. Radio Shack stores sell the jacks and adapters you need to convert from older wiring methods to modular wiring. The telephone company will charge you for the installation of the necessary jacks. The telephone company will ask you for the USOC number of the jack to be installed. The number is RJ11C for a baseboard jack or RJ11W for a wall jack. WALL PLATE MOUNTING Follow these steps to mount the phone on an existing wall plate. 1. Plug one end of a short modular cord (Cat. No. 279-0390, not supplied) into the jack on the back of the phone. 2. Guide the cord through the groove on the bottom of the telephone. Put any excess cord in the opening on the bottom of the telephone. 3. Plug the other end of the modular cord into the jack on the wall plate. 4. Align the phone's keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the phone downward. 5. Lift and rotate the handset holder so it holds the handset in place. DIRECT WALL MOUNTING 1. Drill two holes 3 15/16 inches apart. 2. Thread a screw (not supplied) into each hole, letting the heads extend 3/16 inch. 3. Plug one end of a short modular cord (Cat. No. 279-0390, not supplied) into the jack on the back of the phone. 4. Guide the cord through the groove on the bottom of the telephone. 5. Plug the other end of the phone cord into a modular phone jack. 6. Align the phone's keyhole slots with the screw heads and slide the phone downward. 7. Lift and rotate the handset holder so it holds the handset in place. SETTING THE TONE/PULSE SWITCH Set the TONE/PULSE switch on the right side of the phone for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which setting to use, follow these steps. 1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE. 2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number key other than 0. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set TONE/PULSE to PULSE. If the tone stops, you have tone service. Leave TONE/PULSE set to TONE NOTE: The # button has no function in the pulse mode. TURNING THE RINGER VOLUME OFF AND ON The RINGER OFF/ON switch on the right side of the phone lets you turn the ringer on or off to suite your needs. NOTE: When the ringer is off, other phones on the line still ring. (CS 3/14/96)
