Neon Desktop Squiggle Phone (430-0834) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 31415 Make sure you have followed the directions in Faxback Doc. # 31413, "Installation" and properly connected the cords before continuing. SETTING THE P/T SWITCH Set P/T on the side of the handset for the type of service you have (pulse or tone). If you are nut sure which type you have, follow these steps. 1. Set P/T to T. 2. Life the handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0. If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. 4. If you have tone service, leave P/T set at T. If you have pulse service, set P/T to P. TURNING THE RINGER ON/OFF If you do not want the ringer to sound, set RINGER ON/OFF to OFF. You can still answer the phone if you hear an extension phone ringer or see the neon light flashing, and you can still make calls. TURNING THE NEON LIGHT ON/OFF To turn on the neon light, set LIGHT ON/OFF on the back of the phone to ON. To turn it off, set the switch to OFF. NOTES: The neon light flashes when the phone rings and turns off when you pick up the handset, regardless of the LIGHT ON/OFF setting. If the neon light is on for more than 4 hours, the handset and base become warm. This is normal and does not harm the phone. INSTALLING/REPLACING THE CLOCK BATTERY The clock is powered by one AAA battery (not supplied). For the best performance, we recommend an alkaline battery such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 230-0584. NOTE: Be sure to disconnect the telephone line before replacing the battery. Follow these steps to install the battery. 1. Unscrew the screw on the battery compartment cover. 2. Push in the latch on the battery compartment cover and lift off the cover. 3. Insert a fresh AAA battery as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) inside the battery compartment. 4. Replace the cover and tighten the screw to secure it. Under normal operation, the battery lasts for about one year. If the alarm sound weakens or the clock slows down, replace the battery with a fresh one. SETTING THE TIME Use the knob underneath the phone's base to set the time. Pull the knob out and turn it to adjust the time. Push the knob in to lock it in place. (CS 3/18/96)
