ET-912 Speakerphone with Caller ID (430-0692) Operation - Part 2 Faxback Doc. # 31562 EDITING A DISPLAYED PHONE NUMBER You can change any displayed number before you select a line and dial it. To erase one or more digits in the displayed number, repeatedly press CNF/BSP (Conference/Backspace) on the handset until the digits you want disappear, then re-enter the numbers. To clear the displayed number, press and hold down CLEAR/CALL ID until the number disappears, then re-enter the number. CONFERENCE CALLING This feature lets you link callers on both lines to hold a 3-way conversation. You can also link callers on both lines and another person using the base to hold a 4-way conversation. NOTE: You cannot start a conference using the base. Follow these steps to make a conference call. 1. Place the first call on hold by pressing HOLD. 2. Place a call on the second line, or answer another call. 3. Press CNF/BSP on the handset or CONF on the base. You hear both callers, and both callers can hear you. 4. If you are using the handset and you want another person to join the conference using the handset, have the person press LINE 1 or LINE 2 on the handset. NOTE: To end the conference call, simply hang up. MEMORY DIALING STORING PHONE NUMBERS IN MEMORY You can store up to 20 different phone numbers of up to 16 digits each. To make it easy to find a stored phone number, you can save a six-letter name with it. NOTE: The phone saves numbers stored in memory even if the phone's power is disconnected or the battery is removed from the handset. 1. If a line indicator is displayed, press HANG UP on the base or OFF on the handset. 2. Using the number keys, enter the phone number you want to store. 3. Press and hold down PROG/MEM for about 3 seconds. MEM and PROG appear on the display. 4. Using the number keys, enter the number of the memory location (00-19) where you want to store the phone number. The memory location number you entered, NAME, and six digits (------) appear on the display. NOTE: If you do not want to store a name with the phone number, skip Step 5. 5. Using the number keys, enter a six-letter name for the phone number you entered in Step 2. IMPORTANT: The letters do not appear on the display. NOTES: A number key can represent more than one letter. For example, you can press 5 once to enter the letter J, K, or L. If necessary, press 1 one or more times to enter spaces. Each time you press a key, a dash on the display is replaced by an underscore. If the name has less than six letters, repeatedly press 1 to fill all six spaces. The total number of letters and spaces must equal six. If you try to enter more than six letters, the phone sounds an error beep. If this happens, repeat Steps 1-5. 6. When you have entered all six letters for the name, press PROG/MEM to store it. If the phone successfully stored the number and name, the phone sounds a series of tones. If the phone did not successfully store the number and name, the phone sounds on an error tone and PrOg Error appears. Try the procedure again. 7. To store more numbers, repeat Steps 1-6. NOTES: If you receive a call while storing a number in memory, press LINE for that line to answer the call. After the call, begin again at Step 1 to store the number. To change a number and name, store a new one in its place. If you enter a name that is too similar to another stored name (for example, Jenny and Kenny), the phone sounds a tone and displays duPLiCAte and the memory location number where you tried to store the similar name. Then, after about 25 seconds, the phone sounds another tone and displays PrOg Error. If this happens, repeat Steps 1-6 and enter a different name. Storing a Pause In some telephone systems, you must dial an access code (9, for example) and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an outside number. You can store the access code with the phone number. However, you must also store a pause after the access code to allow the outside line time to connect. To do so, press HOLD at eh appropriate place to enter a 1.5- second pause. For a longer pause, press HOLD additional times. DIALING A STORED NUMBER IMPORTANT: If you want to test a stored number of an emergency service, make the test call in the off-peak hours, such as late evening or early morning, and remain on the line to explain the reason for your call. Using a Name You can dial a stored number by entering the six-letter name you saved with it. 1. Press LINE 1 or LINE 2 on the base or handset to select a line. 2. Press PROG/MEM. MEM appears on the display. NOTE: If NAME appears on the display, press PROG/MEM again. MEM and NAME appear on the display. 3. Using the letters on the number keys, enter the name for the number you want to dial. When the phone recognizes the name you enter, it displays the number then dials it. Using a Memory Location Number You can dial a stored number by entering the number of the memory location where you saved it. 1. Press LINE 1 or LINE 2 on the base or handset to select a line. 2. Press PROG/MEM. MEM appears on the display. NOTE: If NAME appears on the display, press PROG/MEM again. 3. Using the number keys, enter the 2-digit memory location number for the number you want to dial. The phone displays the number and dials it. DELETING A STORED NUMBER 1. If a line indicator is displayed, press HANG UP on the base or OFF on the handset. 2. Press PROG/MEM. The phone beeps, and MEM appears on the display. 3. Repeatedly press * to move down or # to move up the list of stored numbers until the number you want to delete is displayed. Or, use the number keys to enter the memory location number. The memory location number and the phone number appear. 4. When the number you want to delete is displayed, press and hold down CLEAR/CALL ID on the handset for about 3 seconds. The memory location number and ErASEd appear on the display, and the phone erases the number. CALLER ID OPERATION RECEIVING AND STORING CALLS The phone displays caller ID information during an incoming call, including the caller's telephone number and the call's time and date, as sent by the phone company to caller ID subscribers. As it receives calls, it stores the information in the phone's memory for later recall. When the phone's memory becomes full, new messages replace the oldest messages. REVIEWING/DELETING CALL INFORMATION You can review and delete call information for up to 32 calls stored in memory. The phone displays the following information for each call record. Call record number Line where the call came in Telephone number Other Caller ID call information (see "Displayed Messages"). To review stored call information, press CLEAR/CALL ID. The display shows the call record number of the latest call, the line number where the call came in, the caller's number and CALL ID. NOTES: Do not press and hold down CLEAR/CALL ID. This deletes the displayed call record. If the incoming phone number is longer than 10 digits, the display shows only the last 10 digits. To view the date and time of the displayed call, press and hold down 0. This display shows the date and time when the call was received. To view information about other stored calls, repeatedly press * to move down or # to move up the list of call records until the call information you want to view is displayed. To delete the displayed call, press and hold down CLEAR/CALL ID. DISPLAYED MESSAGES The phone might display any of the following information. Out of Area If caller ID service is not available in the caller's area, out oF ArEA appears on the display. Private Calls If the caller has elected to block caller ID information, Pri appears on the display. Line Error If there is an error in the Caller ID transmission, Error appears on the display. NOTE: Minor electrical disturbances can affect the caller ID information. Occasional errors are normal.
