Q:  Is the unit controlled by ID Number or by phone line?  Why does it
    report alert condition 1 and 2 when nothing is connected to those
    terminals?

A:  Any normally open or normally closed positive switches can be used for
    the alert conditions.  This Home Monitor will "LOOK" at the status of
    the alert conditions when the ID number is entered and consider that
    condition to be normal.  Any deviation from normal (either by a switch
    opening or closing) will be reported as the existence of that
    condition.  All three alert conditions operate independently of each
    other so that normal can be any combination of open or closed.
