READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLATION

We have designed your amplifier to conform to federal regulations, and you
can connect it to most telephones lines. However, each device you connect
to the phone line draws power from the line.  We refer to this power draw
as the device's ringer-equivalence number, or REN.  The REN is shown on the
bottom of your amplifier.

If you are using more than one phone or other device on the line, add up
all the RENs.  If the total is more than five, your phones might not ring.
In rural areas, a total REN of three might impair ringer operation.

CHOOSING A LOCATION

Choose a location for the amplifier that is:

    Near a phone jack.

    Away from excessive background noise.

    Away from vibrations.

    Away from hard surfaces that might reflect sound, such as windows,
    walls, and file cabinets.

    Near an AC outlet (if you use an optional AC adapter).

CONNECTING THE AMPLIFIER

Following these steps to connect the amplifier to your phone:

1.  Disconnect the phone's modular plug from the phone line jack.  Then 
    connect the plug to the modular jack on the amplifier.

2.  Connect the amplifier's modular plug to the phone line jack.

NOTES:  If the phone line jack is not a modular jack, update the wiring 
        yourself, using jacks and adapters available at your local Radio
        Shack store.  Or, have the phone company update the wiring for you.

        The phone company will charge you for the installation of the
        necessary jack(s).  The phone company will ask you for the USOC
        number of the jack to be installed.  This number is RJ11C.

        You can connect the amplifier to a two-line jack (RJ14).  However,
        if you do, the amplifier only works on Line 1.

        Some telephone installations in areas far away from the central
        office might not provide enough line voltage to properly operate
        the amplifier.  If the incoming volume level is low and hard to
        hear, use a Class II, AC 120V/DC 9V, AC adapter that delivers at
        least 100 milliamps (Cat. No. 273-1455, not supplied).  Connect the
        adapter's small plug to the DC 9V jack on the back of the
        amplifier.  Then connect the adapter's AC plug to a standard AC
        outlet.

WARNING:  To prevent a shock hazard, unplug the AC power cord from the
          AC outlet before you unplug it from the telephone.
