CT-355 Mini Handheld Flip-Style Cellular Phone (170-1068) System Type Faxback Doc. # 33450 SETTING THE CELLULAR SYSTEM TYPE Using the phone in a city where you do not subscribe to a cellular service is referred to as roaming. Each cellular market area has two cellular service providers. One of the providers is designated Provider A and the other Provider B. When your phone is activated for service, find out from your dealer whether your cellular provider is type A or B. It is possible for the company you purchase your cellular service from to be (or have agreements with) Provider A in some cities and Provider B in other cities. Usually it is less expensive to use the same company for cellular service when you are in your home city and when you roam. To do this you need to know whether your cellular service provider is type A or Type B in your home city and in each city you plan to travel to. The SYSTEM SELECT function lets you select one of four possible roaming modes: HOME TYPE A* or HOME TYPE B** Use this setting if you are roaming and your home city cellular service provider is the same provider type in the city you have traveled to (for example, if the company is Provider A in both cities). NON-HOME TYPE B* or NON-HOME TYPE A** Use this setting if you are roaming and your home city cellular service provider is the opposite provider in the city you have traveled to (for example, if the company is Provider A in your home city and Provider B in the other city). HOME AREA* or HOME AREA** Use this setting if you do not want to roam (you can only use the phone within the area covered by your home cellular service provider). BOTH SYSTEMS* or BOTH SYSTEMS** With this setting the phone will use either Provider A or B in the city you have traveled to, whichever has the stronger signal. * When System A NAM is selected. **When System B NAM is selected. NOTE: The home system depends on the type of the currently selected NAM. The phone displays the selected type (A or B) in the upper left corner of the display. To select the roaming mode, set the cellular system type as follows: 1. Press MNU 1. 2. After a few seconds, the phone displays the system select mode currently in use. Press /\ or \/ to scroll to the desired option. 3. Press STO to confirm. (BR/EB 6/13/96)
