TAD-245 Telephone Answering System (430-0394) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 33459 CHOOSING A LOCATION Choose a location for the TAD that lets it sit flat and level. Be sure it is convenient to a telephone jack and an AC outlet. Make sure that all cords are safely out of the way. CONNECTING THE TAD TO THE TELEPHONE LINE Select one of the following based on your installation site. 1. Connect the modular plug from the line cord of your phone to the AUX PHONE jack of the TAD. Plug the PHONE LINE cable of the TAD into your modular wall socket. 2. Use a 4-pin to modular jack adapter available at Radio Shack. 3. Install a modular jack system, available from Radio Shack, or contact your phone company. NOTE: Your telephone company is authorized to charge you for the installation of jacks or any other necessary wiring. SETTING THE REMOTE CONTROL SECURITY CODE Your TAD has a built-in security code system that prevents unauthorized access to your TAD. The code also serves as a "password," allowing you to activate your TAD from a remote location. The code, which you must set before you can have remote access to your TAD, is pre-selected by you. To set the code, use the REMOTE CONTROL switch located under the panel on the top left side of the unit. Lift the panel and examine the eight micro-switches. The switch labels, 1-8 appear beneath the switches. These eight switches are divided into three groups, A, B, and C, and these labels appear above the switches. When you set switches 1, 2, and 3, you determine the value of A. When you set switches 4, 5, and 6, you determine the value of B. The last two switches, 7 and 8, determine your C value. For example assume you want to set yur security code to 5 2 3. To set A equal to 5, set switch 1 to ON, switch 2 to OFF, and switch 3 to ON. To set B equal to 2, set switch 4 to OFF, switch 5 to ON, and switch 6 to OFF. Finally, to set C equal to 3, set switch to ON and switch 8 to ON. Use a small, pointed object to move the switches to the chosen positions. INSTALLING CASSETTES The TAD-245 comes with an MC-15 outgoing message micro-cassette and an MC-60 micro-cassette used for incoming messages. Do not use cassettes of a type other than those supplied. If you need replacements, contact your Radio Shack store. NOTE: Replace the outgoing and incoming message tapes once every year, or more often if used heavily. 1. Lift open the cassette compartment door. 2. Install the MC-60 cassette in the left MESSAGE/MEMO compartment with SIDE A facing up and with the full reel on the right. 3. Install the MC-15 tape in the right ANNOUNCEMENT cassette compartment with SIDE A up and the full reel to the right. NOTE: Many times a new tape is wound tightly. This can cause a squeaking sound the first few times you play it. This is normal and will soon disappear. CONNECTING THE TAD TO THE POWER LINE 1. Insert the mini-plug of the AC power adapter into the jack on the TAD labeled DC 14V. 2. Plug the adapter into a standard wall outlet. (IR-06/18/96)
