TURNING THE PHONE ON/OFF RECEIVING A CALL

Press and hold POWER for 1/2 second to turn on the phone.  The phone
performs a short self test then briefly displays its activated phone
number.  The phone is ready for use when ON, S and B appears.

WARNING:  As with other radio transmitters, avoid touching the antenna with
          the phone turned on.

          Press and hold POWER for 1 second to turn off the phone.

MAKING A CALL

1.  Enter the phone number you want to dial.  Remember to include the area
    code, if necessary.

    NOTE:  To correct a mistake, repeatedly press CLEAR to delete digits
           one by one, or press and hold CLEAR to clear all digits.

2.  Press SEND to dial the phone number.  The phone displays IN USE and the
    dialed phone number.

    NOTES:  NO SERVICE appears and the phone sounds an error tone if you
            are outside the cellular service area.

            LOCKED appears if you try to make a call when your phone is
            locked.

            KEYGUARD ACTIVE appears if keyguard is turned on.

3.  To end the call, press END.

RECEIVING A CALL

When the phone receives an incoming call, it rings and flashes CALL.

NOTE:  If you selected silent service (see "Ringing Volume" on Faxback Doc.
       # 34156) the phone does not ring. The keypad and display flash, CALL
       flashes on the display, and the phone sounds a short beep.

1.  Press SEND or any key (except POWER).

    NOTE:  If the keyguard is turned on, you can only answer a call by
           pressing SEND.

2.  To end a call, press END.

3.  If you do not answer a call, 1 CALL MISSED or NN CALLS MISSED remains
    on the display until you press any key (except POWER).

SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATION

The vertical bar on the bar on the left of the display shows the received
signal strength.  The higher the bar, the stronger the signal.

If the signal is poor, try moving to a different location.  If you are
using the phone in a building, it might help to move close to a window.

If the NO SVC indicator is displayed, the phone is outside of the cellular
service area, and you cannot make or receive calls.

ADJUSTING THE VOLUME

Adjust the earpiece volume during a call by pressing /\ to increase or \/
to decrease the volume.

The phone displays VOLUME and a bar graph indicating the volume setting.

MAKING EMERGENCY CALLS

To dial the primary emergency number, press and hold 9 for 1 1/2 seconds.
Or, dial a complete emergency number and press SEND.  You can do this even
if the phone is locked.

NOTES:  Your service provider stores a primary and any secondary emergency
        numbers into your phone so the phone knows which emergency numbers
        are allowed.  These numbers might not be valid in all areas.  For
        example, not all areas have 911 service.  If you use the phone away
        from its primary service area, you might not be able to dial local
        emergency numbers if your phone is locked.

        One-touch emergency dialing does not operate if keyguard is turned
        on or emergency key 9 is turned off.

IMPORTANT:  When you make an emergency call, give your name and cellular
            phone number, as well as the location of the incident. Remember
            that your phone might be the only means of communications at
            the accident scene.  Do not end the call until you are advised
            you may do so.

LAST NUMBER REDIAL

The phone automatically stores the last five phone numbers you called.

To redial a number:

1.  Clear the display by pressing and holding CLEAR.

2.  Press SEND to display the last-dialed number.

3.  Use the arrow keys to scroll through the last five dialed numbers.  The
    redial memory number appears in the upper right corner of the display
    (LO-L4).  If no number is saved in a redial memory, the phone displays
    LOCATION EMPTY.

4.  Press SEND to call the displayed number.

USING MEMORY

SCRATCHPAD MEMORY

The phone's scratchpad memory lets you temporarily store a telephone number
during a call. This location is automatically cleared when you turn off the
phone.

To store a number in scratchpad memory:

1.  Enter the number (be sure to include the area code, if necessary).

    NOTE:  The person you are talking to hears tones when you press keys.

2.  Press MENU, use the arrow keys to scroll to STORE TO MEMORY, then press
    OK.

    The phone prompts you to enter a memory number (STORE TO?) or suggests
    the first empty memory location, if available (STORE TO 5?).

3.  Press #, then OK.

The number is stored in the scratchpad memory.  Any number previously
stored is replaced by the new number.

To recall the number:

1.  Press #, then press either arrow. If the scratchpad is empty, the phone
    displays LOCATION EMPTY.

2.  To call the number, press SEND.

To store the number in a speed-dial memory, recall the number from
scratchpad memory, then store it as described in "Storing Numbers in
Memory", see below.

STORING NUMBERS IN MEMORY

To store a phone number in memory:

1.  Press MENU 1.

    The phone prompts you to enter the phone number (NUMBER?).

2.  Enter the area code and the phone number, then press OK.

    The phone prompts you to enter a speed-dial memory number (STORE TO?)
    or suggests the first empty speed-dial memory (STORE TO 5?).

    NOTE:  You can also enter the number first, then press MENU 1.

3.  Press P1 or P2 to store the number in a one-touch memory, OK to store
    the number in the suggested speed-dial memory, or enter the two-digit
    speed-dial memory number then press OK to store the number in another
    speed-dial memory.

If the selected memory was already used, the phone prompts you to replace
the contents (REPLACE CONTENT?).  Press OK to replace the number or, if you
do not want to continue, press CLEAR or wait until the phone displays NOT
STORED.  The phone redisplays the number you tried to store.  Store the
number in another memory or clear the display by pressing and holding CLEAR

Quick Storing

To quickly store a phone number in the first unused speed-dial memory,
enter the phone number, the press and hold OK for 1/2 second.

The phone displays STORED to confirm that the number is stored in the first
empty speed-dial memory (displayed in the upper right corner of the
display).  If there is no empty speed-dial memory, the phone displays NO
SPACE, then redisplays the number you tried to store.  You cannot quick
store numbers if all speed-dial memories are used.

MEMORY SCROLLING

Use the arrow keys to scroll through the stored phone numbers.  Press /\ to
scroll forward or \/ to scroll backward.  The phone displays the memory
number in the upper right corner of the display.

To begin scrolling from a specified memory, first enter a memory number,
then use the arrows to scroll forward or backward from that memory.  If the
memory you entered is empty, the phone displays LOCATION EMPTY, then
displays the next memory.

SPEED DIALING

To speed dial, enter the memory number where you stored the desired phone
number, then press SEND.  The phone recalls the telephone number from the
specified memory, displays it briefly, then dials it.

If the memory is empty, the phone displays LOCATION EMPTY.

ONE-TOUCH DIALING

To dial a one-touch number, simply press P1 or P2.  The phone recalls the
telephone number, displays it briefly, then dials it.

If the memory location is empty, the phone displays LOCATION EMPTY.

CLEARING A MEMORY

Follow these steps to clear a memory.

1.  Press MENU, then press 3 DEF.

    The phone prompts you for the memory to clear.

2.  Enter the memory number you want to clear.

3.  Press OK.

    The phone displays ERASE? and the number stored in the memory. If there
    is no number stored in the memory, the phone displays LOCATION EMPTY.

4.  Press OK to clear the memory or CLEAR to stop without clearing the
    memory.
