DUoFONE-185 40 Memory Speakerphone With LCD Display (430-0611) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 34425 Select a location for your telephone where the wires are not in the way of normal activities. Be sure that it is near both a telephone jack and an AC outlet. We designed your telephone to be powered from the provided AC 9V adapter and two AA batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. These provide long lasting power to keep telephone numbers stored in memory. CAUTION: To properly initialize the phone, be sure to follow the steps as directed below. (If you perform Step 2 before Step 1, the telephone might not work correctly.) 1. Install the two AA batteries. (See "Installing/Replacing Batteries", below) 2. Connect the phone to the supplied AC 9V adapter and connect the adapter to a standard AC wall outlet. (See "Connecting the AC Adapter", below). If, after initial installation or after a prolonged power failure, the display does not show the time or switches rapidly between the clock and the alarm time, then: 1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the batteries. 2. Wait 30 seconds. 3. Reinstall the batteries and reconnect the AC adapter. INSTALLING/REPLACING BATTERIES 1. Remove the battery door on the bottom of the phone by pressing the tab in the direction of the arrow. Then, lift it off. 2. Insert two AA batteries observing proper polarity as indicated by the drawing in the compartment (+ and -). CAUTION: Incorrect polarity might damage the phone. 3. Replace the battery door. When the batteries become weak, the telephone might lose all stored numbers The BATTERY LOW indicator lights when the batteries need to be replaced. CAUTION: Be sure the AC adapter remains connected while you replace batteries so that the telephone does not lose stored numbers. CONNECTING THE AC ADAPTER Plug the AC Adapter's barrel-type plug into the DC 9V jack on the tele- phone, and connect the other end of the adapter to a standard AC outlet. Then, route the cable from the AC Adapter through the strain relief slot. WALL MOUNTING YOUR TELEPHONE If you wish, you can mount your telephone on a standard wall plate or you can mount it directly on the wall with screws (not supplied). Attach the supplied bracket to the back of the telephone. Push up and lift off. Then mount the bracket on the lower socket and push up to lock it. 2. Plug the other end of the modular telephone cable into the jack on the wall plate. 4. Slide the telephone until over the wall plate until it locks into place To mount the base unit directly on the wall: 1. Drill two holes 3 15/16 inches (100mm) apart. 2. Thread two screws into the wall with the lower screw extending 1/4 inch (6mm) and the upper screw extending 1/16 inch (2mm) from the wall. 3. Radio Shack stores sell jacks and adapters necessary to convert from older wiring methods to modular wiring. Have the telephone company update your telephone wiring for you. NOTE: The telephone company has the right to charge you for installing the jack. The telephone company will ask for the USOC number of the jack. This number is RJ-11C (or RJ-11W for a wall mount jack).
