Nokia 636 Cellular Telephone (170-1081) Programming Faxback Doc. # 34463 The Nokia 636 Series handportable CMT uses an EEPROM NAM that can be programmed directly from the standard user keypad. In order to access the NAM, you must enter the special access code currently programmed into the phone. Once the programming mode is accessed, NAM parameters are loaded by entering them into the display and "storing" them to selected memory locations. Be sure to obtain all parameters before proceeding. There are two versions of software in the Nokia 636 phones. One takes the 19 step and the other the 25 step instruction set (see these instructions below.) Try the 19 step procedure first. If after pressing OK at the end of the programming string the display does not respond, then use the 25 step method. The short version *#639#* will work on both versions but the code cannot be changed. Programming Method #1 To program the 636, follow these steps: 1. Turn on the phone. 2. Enter *3001#12345. 3. Press [OK]. 4. Press and hold [CLR] until the display clears. 5. Enter 911#*911#0*1234. NOTE: Both 911 and *911 are recognized as emergency numbers. The # sign is the separator. 0 = English, 1 = French, 2 = Spanish 1234 = lock code 0000 - 9999 6. Press [OK]. Display will show "STORE TO?". 7. Enter 01 [OK] Entering Mobile Phone Number 8. Press and hold [CLR] until the display clears. 9. Enter the 10 digit phone number. 10. Press [OK]. Display will show "STORE TO?". 11. Enter 02 (Primary NAM) [OK] or 04 (Optional NAM) [OK] Entering System Parameters 12. Press and hold [CLR] until the display clears. 13. Enter the system parameters 00034*!*!*334*0?*10 SID*Access Method*Local Access*Initial Paging Channel*Overload Class *Group ID 14. Press [OK]. Display reads "STORE TO?" 15. Enter 03 (Primary NAM) [OK] or 05 (Optional NAM) [OK] Verify NAM 16. Press and hold [CLR] until the display clears. 17. Use the [RCL] key and memory locations (01 through 05). 18. Verify that the information in each location is correct. 19. To exit programming mode, power the phone off then back on. If "NAM ERROR" appears on display programming was done incorrectly and must be repeated. Programming Method #2 To program the 636, follow these steps: 1. At the normal operating screen, enter *3001#12345. Then press MENU. 2. Press the down arrow key. The display will show STORE TO MEMORY. 3. Press OK. Display will show NAME? 4. Press OK. Display will show STORE TO 1? 5. Press 00 (zero zero). Display will show STORE TO 00. 6. Press OK. Display will show NOT STORED. 7. Enter the emergency number and lock code information 911#*911#0*XXXX and then press MENU. (Emergency number 1#* emergency number 2# Language Code * Lock Code) (The Lock Code can be any four digit number.) 8. Press the down arrow key. The display will show STORE TO MEMORY. 9. Press OK. Display will show NAME? 10. Press OK. Display will show STORE TO 1? 11. Press 00 (zero zero). Display will show STORE TO 01. 12. Press OK. Display will show NOT STORED. 13. Enter the 10 digit cellular number and then press MENU. 14. Press the down arrow key. Display will show STORE TO MEMORY. 15. Press OK. Display will show NAME. 16. Press OK. Display will show STORE TO? 17. Press 02. Display will show STORE TO 02? 18. Press OK. Display will show STORED. 19. Enter the system information XXXXX*1*1*XXX*10*10 and then press MENU. (System ID*1*1*Page Channel*Access Overload*Group ID) EXAMPLE: 00175*1*1*333*10*10 MENU 20. Press the down arrow key. Display will show STORE TO MEMORY. 21. Press OK. Display will show NAME? 22. Press OK. Display will show STORE TO? 23. Press 03. Display will show STORE 03? 24. Press OK. Display will show STORED. 25. Turn the phone off and then back on. The phone should display the Cellular Number. NOTE: This is a dual NAM phone. If NAM ERROR is encountered at power up on of these telephones, then use the override code to reset to factory settings. NOTE: Nothing else must be on the display and the instructions must be followed exactly. 1. Turn the unit off and then on. 2. Enter the following and nothing else: #953739##953739# 3. Turn unit off and then back on. 4. Reprogram phone as per the 19 or the 25 step programming methods described above. NOTE: The four-digit number at the end of the data string in the memory location [01] is the lock code.
