ET-142 Two Line Telephone with Auto-Dialer (430-0640) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 34489 Your ET-142 Two-Line Telephone with Auto-Dialer is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your telephone so that you can enjoy it for years. Keep the telephone dry. If it does get wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the telephone only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the telephone gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and cause the telephone to work improperly. Keep the telephone away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the telephone with a dampened cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean your telephone. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that can destroy elec- tronic circuits. Modifying or tampering with your telephone's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your telephone is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assis- tance. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW It is very unlikely, but if your telephone causes problems on the phone line, the telephone company has the right to discontinue your service temp- orarily. If this happens, the telephone company notifies you and gives you a chance to have the problem corrected. Also, the telephone company has the right to change its line and/or equipment. If these changes affect your telephone or its connection, the phone company notifies you in writing so that you can take the necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted service. LIGHTNING Your telephone has built-in protection circuits, which meet or exceed FCC requirements, to reduce the risk of damage from surges in telephone line currents. However, lightning striking near or on these lines can cause an excessive surge of voltage that can damage the phone. Lightning damage is uncommon. However, if you are concerned about it or live in an area with frequent and/or severe electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your electronic equipment during the storms. (LB/EB 09/03/96)
