The following suggestions will help you care for your phone so that you can enjoy it for years. Keep the phone dry. If it does get wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits Use and store the phone only in normal temperature environments. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the phone gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the phone to work improperly. Keep the phone away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the phone with a dampened cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or strong detergents to clean the phone. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits. Modifying or tampering with your telephone's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your telephone is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assis- tance. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS If your phone does not work, or works poorly, check its connection to the phone line. Phone calls are automatically switched and routed through com- plex equipment. You will occasionally connect through a weak or noisy line. In some cases you might have to hang up and dial again. If you have problems completing a call using redial or directory dialing, try dialing the phone number manually. You might have made a mistake when you dialed or stored the number. Also, check to see if someone at another extension is using the line. If You Still Have Problems: Disconnect the phone immediately. If other phones on the same line function normally, the fault is with this phone or its installation. If you are not able to locate the problem bring your phone to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW It is very unlikely, but if your phone causes problems on the phone line, the phone company can discontinue your service temporarily. If this happens the phone company notifies you and gives you a chance to correct the problem. Also, the phone company can change its lines and/or equipment. If these changes affect your phone or its connection, the phone company notifies you in writing so that you can take steps to ensure uninterrupted service. LIGHTNING Your phone has protection circuits which meet or exceed FCC requirements, to reduce the risk of damage from surges in phone line current. However, lightning striking near or on the phone lines can damage the phone. Lightning damage is not common. However, if this concerns you, or if you live in an area with frequent and/or severe electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your electronic equipment during the storms. (BR/EB 9/5/96)
