While you are away from your home or office, you can use a touch-tone
phone, or a rotary phone and pocket tone dialer, to do any of the
following:

*  Set the TAD to start or stop answering calls

*  Play your messages

*  Record a new outgoing announcement

Remote Answer-On

To use a remote phone to set the TAD to answer, dial your phone number and
let the phone ring until the TAD answers.  This takes about 10 rings.
After the TAD beeps, enter your security code within 8 seconds, then hang
up the phone.

Toll Saver

If the TAD has recorded messages, it answers the phone after about 2 rings.
If there are no recorded messages, the TAD answers after 4 rings.  If you
are calling to retrieve your messages, you can hang up after the second
ring.

Using Remote Control Commands

To operate the TAD from a remote phone, do the following.

Notes:

*  The remote operation security code is on a sticker on the bottom of the
   TAD.

*  Unless you enter remote control command 2 (Answer Off), the TAD sets
   itself to answer calls after remote operation.

1.  Dial your phone number.

2.  When the outgoing announcement ends, enter the remote security code
    within 8 seconds.  Hold down the button at least 2 second.

Notes:

*  If you do not correctly enter the remote security code within 8 seconds,
   the TAD disconnects the calls.

*  If the tape is full when you call the TAD, the TAD answers after eight
   rings.  Then, it sounds eight beeps instead of the announcement.  Enter
   the remote security code within 8 seconds.

3.  The TAD beeps to prompt for a command.

Enter a remote control command by pressing the appropriate number.  After
each operation, the TAD beeps.  To end remote operation, hang up the phone.

Notes:

*  If you do not enter a command within 8 seconds after a command prompt,
   the TAD sounds a beep and hangs up.

*  If you hang up while the TAD is playing back messages, the TAD might not
   recognize that you hung up.  If someone calls while the TAD continues to
   play the new messages, the caller hears a busy signal.

Remote Control Command Descriptions

Command Key       Command             Description
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
   1              Record Outgoing     Press 1 to record a new outgoing
                  Announcement        announcement.  The TAD beeps
                                      twice.  Begin your new outgoing
                                      announcement.  When you finish your
                                      announcement, press 1 again to end
                                      the recording.  The TAD replays your
                                      new outgoing announcement.

   2              Remote Answer Off   Press 2 before you listen to messages
                                      to set the TAD to not answer incoming
                                      calls.  The TAD beeps and then
                                      disconnects the call and turn off.

                  Erase Messages      After you listen to your incoming
                                      messages, press 2 to have the TAD
                                      record new messages over old
                                      messages.

   3              Remote Play         Press 3 play your incoming messages.
                                      The TAD sounds tones while it rewinds
                                      the tape.  Then, it plays back your
                                      incoming messages.
