TAD-265 Cordless Telephone Answering System (430-0730) Remote Operation Faxback Doc. # 6158 While you are away from your home or office, you can access the TAD using a touch-tone phone or a rotary phone with a pocket tone dialer (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 43-141). You must set your personal security code before you begin any remote operations. This prevents unauthorized access to your incoming messages. For your security code, enter any combination of digits, but avoid obvious choices (such as 1234) that might allow someone else to access the TAD. STORING YOUR SECURITY CODE 1. Be sure the TALK indicator is off. 2. Press * then MEMORY. The HOLD/INTERCOM indicator starts to flash and a beep sounds. 3. Press *. 4. Enter your four-digit security code. 5. Press MEMORY to store the code. A long beep sounds and the HOLD/INTERCOM indicator turns off. NOTES: If you receive a call while storing your security code, press TALK to answer the call. After the call, begin again at Step 2 to store the code. To delete the security code and eliminate remote operation of the TAD, repeat all steps above except Step 4. ACCESSING BY REMOTE CONTROL The TAD must be set to answer calls before remote operation. 1. Dial your phone number. The TAD answers and the outgoing message begins. Remember, if you set the toll saver, the TAD waits four rings before answering if it has received no calls. It answers on the second ring if it has received at least one new message. 2. Enter your four-digit security code. The TAD sounds a 1-sound beep and rewinds the tape to the beginning of the new messages. 3. The TAD plays back new messages and then beeps three times. Remote Answer On The TAD's factory setting is remote answer on. If you did not set the TAD to answer at your home, the remote answer on feature still allows you to access the TAD. Dial your number and let it ring for about 60 seconds. The TAD will answer, and you can then enter your security code and use remote commands. If you want to turn off the remote answer on setting so no one can accidentally access the TAD, do the following: 1. Press * then MEMORY. 2. Press 1 then #. 3. Press MEMORY. To enable remote operation, repeat Steps 1-3, but press * instead of # in Step 2. REMOTE CONTROL COMMANDS The command prompt (three beeps) indicates the end of a remote control command and signals you to enter another remote control command. After the command prompt, you have about 30 seconds to enter another remote control command. If you wait longer than thirty seconds, the TAD hangs up and resets to answer calls. These touch-tone phone keys control your remote TAD functions. 1. Rewinds the incoming message tape to the beginning of the new messages. Press 1 to rewind the tape during playback. 2. Plays back the new messages. The TAD stops automatically when it reaches the end of the messages and sounds the command prompt (three beeps). Press 2 during rewind or fast forward to start playback. 3. Fast-forwards the tape to the end of new messages. Press 3 to fast-forward the tape during playback. The TAD advances the tape to the end of the new messages or until you press 0. * 3 Sets/disables the auto call function. and 1-9/0 To activate the auto call function remotely, press * and 3. Enter the number of call attempts (1-9). The TAD sounds a two-second beep followed by the command prompt. Enter 0 for the number of call attempts to disable the auto call function. NOTE: Before you turn on the auto call function, you must store the phone or pager number. If the number is not stored, the auto call function will not operate (see "Auto Call"). * and Records a memo. 4 Dial your phone number and let the phone ring until the TAD answers. As the TAD plays the outgoing announcement, press * then 4. After the 1-second beep, speak into the telephone to record the memo. The TAD records for the set maximum incoming recording time (30 seconds or 3 minutes) or until you press 0. At the end of the recording, a 2-second beep sounds followed by the command prompt (three beeps). The new memo automatically plays back the next time you enter your security code (with or without messages). NOTE: You do not use to enter your security code to use this command. * and Records a new outgoing announcement. 5 After the command prompt, press * then 5. The TAD rewinds the message tape and sounds a one-second beep. Speak into the phone to record your new outgoing announcement and press 0 to end recording. The TAD sounds a 2-second beep followed by a command prompt. Check your announcement by pressing 5 5. Plays back the outgoing announcement. After the announcement plays, the TAD sounds a 2-second beep followed by the command prompt. * and Positions the message tape to the beginning. When the TAD reaches 7 the beginning of the tape, it sounds a two-second beep followed by the command prompt. * and Sets the TAD to answer in incoming message recording mode. 8 Dial your phone number and let the phone ring until the TAD answers. As the TAD plays the outgoing announcement, enter your security code to begin remote control operation. At the command prompt, press * then 8. The TAD sounds a one-second beep followed by the command prompt. * and Sets the TAD to answer in announcement-only mode. 9 Dial your phone number and let the phone ring until the TAD answers. As the TAD plays the outgoing announcement, enter your security code to begin remote control operation. At the command prompt, press * then 9. The TAD sounds a one-second beep followed by the command prompt. * and Sets the TAD to stop answering calls. The TAD sounds a command prompt and waits for the next command. # Skips the outgoing announcement and goes directly to the incoming message recording mode. Dial your phone number and press the # key when the TAD answers. You do not need to enter your security code to use this command. After the 1-second beep, speak into the telephone to record your message. The TAD records for the set maximum incoming recording time or until you press 0. At the end of the recording, a 2-second beep sounds.
