ET-210 (430-0623) Setup Faxback Doc. # 6235 INITIALIZING YOUR TELEPHONE After you install batteries for the first time, follow these steps very carefully to properly initialize your telephone. You must complete this procedure before you connect your telephone to the telephone line the first time. 1. Press RESET (located on the back of your telephone) with a pointed object, such as a ball-point pen. 2. Press and hold MEMORY CLEAR for about 4 seconds until the display looks like this: ┌────────────────────────────┐ │ ─ - - - - - - - - - │ └────────────────────────────┘ Note: This procedure clears the contents of your telephone's directory and resets your telephone's circuits. SETTING THE RINGER SWITCH This telephone has a switch on its right side that sets the ringer's volume. Set it as appropriate. Note: If you set the ringer to OFF, the telephone does not ring, but you can still make outgoing calls. If you hear an extension phone ringing, you can answer incoming calls. SETTING THE DIALING MODE Set TONE/PULSE on the right side of your telephone for the type of service you have (pulse or tone). If you are not sure which type you have, do this simple test. 1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE. 2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0. If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. 4. If you have pulse service, set TONE/PULSE to PULSE. SETTING THE CLOCK Whenever you are not using your telephone, it displays the current time. Follow these steps to set your telephone's digital clock. 1. Press CLOCK. The time display begins to flash. 2. Repeatedly press Y/HOUR to advance the clock to the correct hour. P appears in the display for times between noon and midnight (PM) and A appears for times between midnight and noon (AM). 3. Repeatedly press Z/MINUTE to advance the clock to the correct minute. 4. Press CLOCK again. The time display stops flashing. (rlr-04/04/94)
