TAD-425 (430-0711) Other Functions Faxback Doc. # 9590 SCREENING CALLS You can use your answering machine to screen incoming calls while you are at home. If you want to speak to the caller, pick up any receiver and start talking. The answering machine stops automatically and resets to answer the next call. If you do not want to speak to the caller, let the answering machine record the call. Call Screening Tips Be sure you adjust the VOLUME control so that you can hear the incoming call. The answering machine does not automatically record your conversation. If you want to record the conversation, see "Two-Way Recording." If you want to answer a call without screening it, pick up any receiver when the phone rings or during the outgoing announcement. The answering machine automatically resets to answer the next call. If you pick up the phone as soon as the answering machine answers, the tape might not reset. Simply hang up the phone and try again. TWO-WAY RECORDING You can use your answering machine to record both sides of your conversation. Press 2-WAY RECORD. The ANNOUNCE and ANSWER indicators alternately flash to show that the answering machine is recording the phone conversation on the incoming message tape. Press STOP to stop recording any time during the call without disconnecting the call. NOTE: It is illegal in some states to record a conversation without the consent of all parties to the conversation, including the telephone company. Check the laws in your area before using the two-way record feature. To play back the recorded conversation, follow these steps: In the STOP MODE - Press REWIND to rewind the tape. Then, press PLAY to play back the conversation. In the ANSWER MODE - Press PLAY to play back the conversation. RECORDING A MEMO You can record a personal memo on the incoming message tape. 1. Press MEMO. The ANNOUNCE and ANSWER indicators alternately flash, and a beep sounds. 2. After the beep, record the memo by speaking into the microphone. The answering machine records your memo on the incoming message tape. 3. After you record the memo, press STOP. To play back the memo along with any messages: If the answering machine is in the answer mode, press PLAY. If the answering machine is in the stop mode, press REWIND to rewind the memo and messages. Then press PLAY. VOX Your answering machine's VOX (voice operated transmission) circuit continuously monitors the caller's voice. If the circuit does not hear the caller for about 7 seconds, the answering machine stops recording, hangs up, and resets. This helps conserve tape when a caller hangs up before the maximum incoming message time (30 seconds or 3 minutes). (ALL-02/06/95)
