Roaming Many service providers make arrangements with other service providers to allow use of your cellular phone in areas other than your home area. Each service provider has different Roaming agreements concerning use and charges. If you travel and wish to use your cellular phone, check with your service provider before leaving your home area. It is important to remember the ROAM indicator does not mean the phone is authorized to make calls; only a system other than the A/B System in your home area is detected. A/B System Selection Whenever travelling, you may need to change your A/B System so you can eliminate the NO SVC indicator. This may also occur when you change your NAM. The A/B System modes and displays are: 1 - A System Only ┌───────────────┐ │ PWR│ │ROAM │ │ A│ └───────────────┘ 2 - B System Only ┌───────────────┐ │ PWR│ │ROAM │ │ b│ └───────────────┘ 3 - Home System Only ┌───────────────┐ │ PWR│ │ │ │ H│ └───────────────┘ 4 - Standard System Mode ┌───────────────┐ - Home System Type │ PWR│ scanned first. │ROAM │ │ b-A│ └───────────────┘ 5 - Inverted System Mode ┌───────────────┐ - Opposite Home System │ PWR│ Type scanned first. │ROAM │ │ A-b│ └───────────────┘ To change the current A/B system mode, enter 'RCL' 88 to recall the current selected system, find the number of the system that you want to select, enter the number corresponding to the desired mode (1) through (5) and Press 'STO' 88. If the cellular phone is out of the service providers cellular coverage, NO SVC is displayed, even if the phone is located within another service area of the opposite system type. If your cellular phone is in the A/B System (A or b) opposite to the unit's Home System, ROAM is displayed. Mode (3) is used within your home area and is the A/B System you are authorized on. If you are outside your home area's cellular coverage, NO SVC is displayed. Mode (4) and (5) are used when you travel in areas where cellular coverage is weak or split into several system types. You also avoid switching back and forth manually or missing any calls, though you may incur double roaming charges. In Modes (4) and (5), if the first system cannot be received by the second system is available, your phone attempts to establish contact with the first system every five minutes. 6 - SID (System Identification) Selection In general, metropolitan areas are served by more than one service provider. In certain situations, you may be roaming in an area that has two A systems or two B systems that overlap, and you could be charged two roaming charges.
