HD Fuse Holder (270-0030A) Specifications Faxback Doc. # 32891 This kit is designed to reduce or eliminate radio frequency interference noise caused by the alternator and/or ignition system of your vehicle. Such noise might appear in your car stereo or CB radio. IGNITION NOISE Ignition noise is characterized by a raspy sound that varies with the speed of the engine and with the distance of the radio from the transmitter. If you have this type of noise, install the capacitor as shown in Figure 1 (Faxback Doc. # 32890). For vehicles that have negative ground electrical systems, which include virtually all foreign and domestic makes, connect the positive (+) lead of the capacitor to the positive (+) terminal of the ignition coil. connect the other lead of the capacitor to chassis ground (a metal part of the vehicle chassis); the coil mounting strap is usually a good place for this connection. CAUTION: Do not connect the capacitor to the wire that goes from the ignition coil to the distributor. ALTERNATOR NOISE Alternator noise is characterized by a high frequency "WHINE" that varies with engine speed. For this type of noise, install the choke in the power line, between the Stereo/CB and the vehicle battery of fuse box (Figure 2, Faxback Doc. # 32890); you will have to cut the power wire. The power cord is usually red with an in-line fuse holder. Secure the connection using insulated electrical tape (64-2348) or wire nuts (64-3026). Attach the choke to a solid piece of metal or plastic, using sheet metal screws. If the alternator noise persist, you may install a capacitor as shown in Figure 3 (Faxback Doc. # 32890). Connect the positive (+) lead of the capacitor to this side of the choke nearer the Stereo/CB. Connect the other lead of the capacitor to chassis ground (a metal part of the vehicle chassis). NOTE: the capacitor connection shown and described is for vehicles with negative ground electrical systems. Reverse the capacitor if your vehicle has a positive ground system. You may use the supplied capacitor, if it is not connected at the ignition coil as described above. Otherwise, obtain a 470 uF, 50V electrolytic capacitor for this purpose.
