Moviecorder (160-0804) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 18540 HINTS FOR MAKING BETTER VIDEO TAPES If you are not familiar with camera techniques, many books about the subject are available at your local library. However, because the camcorder is so simple to use and because tapes can be used again and again, you can experiment and learn as you go. The following information will get you started. Camcorder Movement When moving the camcorder from side to side or up and down, move it slowly and steadily. Too much movement or fast movement makes the recordings look awkward. A video camera tripod is a valuable investment for top quality movie making. Zoom-In and Zoom-Out As with camcorder movement, too much use of zooms can distract from the recording. When you use power zoom, it is best to zoom in or zoom out in one smooth motion, not in several jerky motions. VIDEO CASSETTE HINTS Proper handling of the video cassettes lengthens cassette life and protects the camcorder. Always treat them with care. CASSETTE STORAGE Store video cassettes in their protective boxes in a cool, dry, dust-free environment. Use video cassette racks that hold the cassettes on end rather than on their sides. This prevents improper setting of the spool of tape. ERASE-PROTECTION TAB Video cassettes have an erase-protection feature to prevent accidental erasure of a tape. If the erase-protection tab is missing, the camcorder cannot record on the tape. If you want to record on a tape that does not have the tab, put a piece of heavy plastic tape over the tab hole. LOOSENING TAPE TENSION Occasionally the tape winds too tightly. This can cause improper operation of the camcorder. You can loosen the tape in most cassettes by pressing the brake-release plunger located on the bottom-center of the cassette. Use the tip of a pen or pencil to press the plunger. (EB/all-02/06/96)
