USING AN OPTIONAL REMOTE CONTROL You can operate the camcorder from a distance using an optional remote control (CMC No. T16-RME55A (Radio Shack Unlimited No. 11449246), available through your local Radio Shack store). Most buttons on the remote control operate the same functions as the corresponding buttons on the camcorder. Aim the remote control at the window just below the camcorder's lens. NOTES: If the camcorder is exposed to direct sunlight or is under bright light, the remote control might not function properly. If there is any obstacle in the path of the infrared beam between the remote control and the camcorder, the remote control might not function properly. Installing the Remote Control's Battery The remote control uses a lithium battery (supplied with the remote control) for power. Follow these steps to load the battery in the remote control. 1. While pressing and holding the tab on the back of the remote control to the left, remove the battery holder. 2. Wipe the new battery with a clean, dry cloth, then slide it into the battery holder with the + mark facing up. CAUTION: Do not handle the battery with tweezers or any other metal object. This can create a short circuit that could shorten the battery's life or damage it. 3. Replace the battery holder. NOTES: If you do not plan to use the remote control for a month or more, remove the battery to protect the remote control from possible battery leakage. The battery's life is approximately one year, but this can vary depending on the temperature and operating conditions. If the remote control does not work properly, remove and reinstall the battery. If the remote control still does not work properly, replace the battery (Cat. No. 23-161). Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type. WARNING: Do not allow children to play with the old battery. It can be harmful or fatal if swallowed. CAUTIONS: Always dispose of the old battery promptly and properly. Do not bury or burn it. Never leave an old, dead, or weak battery in the remote control. Batteries can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. Attaching the Remote Control to a Shoulder Strap You can attach the remote control to a shoulder strap (not supplied) you attach to the camcorder. NOTE: The shoulder strap you use should be between 3/8 and 1/2 inches (1-1.2 centimeters) wide. 1. Attach the remote control's holder to the shoulder strap. 2. Slide the lower portion of the remote control into the holder, then press down the remote control to lock it. To remove the remote control from the holder, press and hold in both sides of the holder until the lower portion of the remote control lifts up slightly, then lift up the remote control to remove it. ATTACHING AN OPTIONAL DC LIGHT TO THE CAMCORDER You can attach an optional DC light (CMC No. T16-CPA (Radio Shack Unlimited No. 11449212), available through your local Radio Shack store) to the camcorder to brighten the natural colors in a scene. WARNING: Do not connect any light other than the recommended DC light to the camcorder. Use of a different light or modification to the DC light's connector or accessory shoe on the camcorder may cause severe battery drain and fire hazard. CAUTIONS: If you use the DC light for an extended period of time, be sure to provide ventilation when working in a hot environment. Using the DC light when the camcorder is powered by a car battery may shorten bulb life. Do not attempt to lift or carry the camcorder by holding the DC light. 1. Slide the light onto the accessory shoe. Be sure it locks into place. 2. Press the light's power button to turn it on. WARNING: The light becomes hot during operation. Do not touch it until it cools. 3. To remove the light, slide it out of the mount. (JC 11/15/95)
