Slide ENHANCE to the middle position. 3. Press POWER to turn on the power. The power indicator lights. 4. Turn on all input sources, such as a camcorder, VCR, cassette tape deck, CD player, and microphone (if it has an ON/OFF switch). 5. Turn on all output systems, such as the VCR and TV/monitor. RECORDING THE AUDIO VIDEO You can copy a video tape from a playback camcorder/VCR to a recording VCR while maintaining picture quality. Or, you can copy a tape, maintain picture quality and add to, delete from, or replace the existing soundtrack with voice, music, or other sounds. Use the following guidelines to make video tape copies. If you want to simply make a video tape copy but do not want to enhance the audio soundtrack, do only "Setting the Video Enhancer and Recording." If you want to make a video tape copy and enhance the soundtrack with music, narration, or other sounds, do "Setting the Stereo Audio Mixer Levels," then "Setting the Video Enhancer and Recording." Setting the Stereo Audio Mixer Levels for Recording After turning on the system, follow these steps to set the audio mixer. 1. Adjust MASTER to between 2 and 4 on the scale. NOTES: MASTER lets you adjust the overall audio input levels of all input sources (MUSIC, AUDIO, and MIC). You can monitor the sound through headphones. 2. Set the MUSIC and AUDIO input sources to start playback and set the microphone to ON. NOTE: Steps 3 through 6 must be performed while all (MUSIC, AUDIO, and MIC) input sources are playing so you can adjust the final output to the levels you want. For example, if you want the new recording soundtrack to have the spoken narration the loudest, the original soundtrack a little softer, and the back ground music the softest, then adjust MIC to about 6, AUDIO to about 5, and MUSIC to about 4. 3. Adjust MIC for the desired input sound level from a microphone connected to the MIC jack. NOTE: The MIC input lets you add your own spoken narration to the new recording. 4. Adjust MUSIC for the desired input sound level from the audio source connected to the MUSIC IN jacks. NOTES: The MUSIC input lets you add pre-recording music, sound effects, or narration to the new recording. If you wish to use the video enhancer without changing the audio portion of your recorded tape, slide MIC and MUSIC to their full down (-dB) positions. 5. Adjust AUDIO for the desired input sound level from the audio source connected to the AUDIO IN jacks. NOTE: The AUDIO input lets you include or delete the original audio from the new recording. 6. Adjust MASTER for the desired output sound level. 7. Set the music and audio input sources to the start, begin playback, then press PAUSE. The music and audio input sources stop playback. 8. Set the microphone to OFF. Setting the Video Enhancer and Recording After setting the audio mixer, follow these steps to set the video enhancer and make the actual recording. NOTE: If you want to simply make a video tape copy but do not want to enhance the audio soundtrack, bypass steps 4 and 5. 1. Load the playback camcorder/VCR with the pre-recorded tape and press PLAY then PAUSE to temporarily stop the camcorder/VCR's playback. The video image from the camcorder/VCR appears on the TV/Monitor. NOTES: Not all camcorders have a pause control. Consult your camcorder owner's manual for correct pause procedures. While in PAUSE, some camcorders do not produce and image or produce a distorted, unclear image on the TV/monitor. 2. Load the recording VCR with a blank video tape, or one you want to record over, and press RECORD and PLAY. The recording VCR starts recording. 3. Slide ENHANCE to obtain the sharpest and clearest picture. NOTES: You might want to make a test recording on the dubbing VCR. Video signals recorded on the VCRs are not exactly the same as what you see on the TV screen. In some cases, you might want to make more than one test recording until you get the desired results. Adjusting ENHANCE fully down produces a black picture. Adjusting ENHANCE fully up produces a color saturated picture. 4. Press PAUSE on the music and audio input sources you had set earlier. The input sources start playback. 5. Set the microphone to ON and speak through it to add your narration to the recording. 6. To stop recording, press STOP on the playback camcorder/VCR and the recording VCR. NOTE: To replay and adjust the audio/video output of the recorded tape, adjust the appropriate controls on the TV/monitor or VCR. (ALL-02/06/95)
