AC Power Cord - lets you power the Model 25 from a standard AC power. DC Power Cord - lets you power the Model 25 from your vehicle's battery. Matching Adapter - lets you connect the flat 300-ohm antenna lead to the ANT terminal. CHOOSING A LOCATION Chose a location in your home where: Air flows freely on all sides of the Model 25. The power cord is not in the way of normal traffic. NOTE: Do not plug in the AC cord until you make all other connections. CONNECTING THE SUPPLIED ANTENNA The supplied antenna provides good reception in most areas, but for the best reception in all areas, use a high-quality outdoor antenna, available at your local Radio Shack store. See "Connecting an Outdoor Antenna." Follow these steps to connect the supplied antenna. 1. Insert the antenna's post into the socket on top of the Model 25's cabinet. 2. Connect the flat twin-lead cable from the antenna to the matching adapter. 3. Plug the matching adapter into the Model 25's ANT terminal. 4. Fully extend the antenna and adjust it for the best VHF reception. NOTE: To improve UHF reception, shorten the antenna. CONNECTING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA If the antenna uses 75-ohm coaxial cable, connect the antenna cable directly to the ANT jack. If the antenna uses 300-ohm cable, use the supplied matching adapter to make the connection. If you have separate VHF and UHF antennas, connect the antenna cables to a signal combiner (available at your local Radio Shack store). Then connect the combiner's output to the Model 25's ANT jack. Refer to your antenna's installation instructions for additional information. CONNECTING TO A CABLE SYSTEM To receive cable channels, connect the Model 25 to your local cable system as follows. WARNING: Some states have laws restricting direct connections to cable wires (connections that do not go through the cable box). Check the laws in your area before making any connections. NOTE: The cable service's channel designations might not match the channel numbers that appear on the screen. See "Cable Channel Designations." If you do not receive scrambled channels, you can connect the cable directly to the Model 25's ANT terminal. If you receive scrambled channels, you must connect the cable to the cable converter box, then connect the cable converter box to the Model 25. Set the Model 25 to the cable box's output channel (3 or 4) and use the cable box to select the channel. Cable Channel Designations The Model 25 can receive up to 126 cable channels. It displays the channels as 1-125. Channels 2-13 are the same for VHF and cable TV, and cable companies usually number as they appear on the display. VIEWING AN EXTERNAL DEVICE To view the signals from the external device connected to the VIDEO/AUDIO IN jacks, enter 00 using the remote control's number buttons, or select one channel higher than the highest programmed channel or one channel lower than the lowest programmed channel. AUX appears on the screen. CONNECTING THE AC CORD WARNING: For your protection, the power cord has a polarized plug. To preserve this protection, be sure the blades fit fully and easily into the outlet. If you do not have polarized outlets, have a qualified electrician install one before you use the Model 25. Plug the supplied AC cord's smaller end into the Model 25's AC input connector. Then plug the other end into a standard AC outlet. NOTE: To power the Model 25 from your vehicle's battery, see "Using Vehicle Battery Power." USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER To power the Model 25 from your vehicle's battery, plug the supplied DC power cord's small plug into the Model 25's DC 12V jack. Then plug the other end into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. Use only the supplied DC power cord. When the DC power cord is plugged in, the AC power cord is disconnected. When you use the Model 25 with AC power, disconnect the DC power cord from the Model 25. Be sure the cigarette-lighter socket is free of ashes and other debris. Always plug the DC power cord into the Model 25 before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket. Always unplug it from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the Model 25. Do not leave the Model 25 connected to DC power when you are not using your vehicle. It could drain your vehicle's battery power. If you use the Model 25 with the vehicle's engine turned off, protect the vehicle's battery from completely discharging by recharging the battery after every 4 hours of use by running the engine for a few minutes. Unplug the DC power cord as soon as you finish using the Model 25. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL All the remote control's buttons have the same functions as the buttons on the Model 25's front panel. In addition, the number buttons let you directly select channels and other options. To use the remote control, point it at the front of the Model 25 and press the desired button(s). Installing the Remote Control's Batteries The remote control requires two AA batteries (not included). For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries (Radio shack Cat. No. 23 552). Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Place the batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the cover. If the remote control does not work or operates erratically, replace both batteries. CAUTION: Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that can damage electronic circuits. (ALL-01/17/95)
