Model 161 Moviecorder (160-0862) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 31675 CARING FOR THE MONITOR Do not let anything press or knock against the monitor screen, as the screen might break. Do not place the camcorder monitor-side down on any surface. CLEANING Use the provided cleaning cloth or other soft cloth to clean the monitor screen. Many plastic parts are used in the camcorder casing. Do not use thinners, benzene or other strong chemical cleaners. These can discolor and damage the case. Clean the casing with a soft, dry cloth. If the casing is particularly dirty, wipe the casing with a tightly wrung cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution. Then wipe it again with a soft, dry cloth. HEAD CLEANING If picture playback becomes blurred or interrupted, and/or X appears on the monitor display, dirt has accumulated on the head so that further maintenance is required. Use an 8 mm VCR/camcorder head cleaner kit (available at your local Radio Shack store) to clean the video heads only when there is a problem. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions included with the kit. If the problem persists, head cleaning requiring highly technical care might be necessary. Contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance. MAINTAINING GOOD RECORDING CAPABILITIES You should avoid using your camcorder under the following conditions: Dew has formed on the head drum. The video tape is damaged or soiled. A damaged or soiled tape might soil the head drum, cause the picture to blur, or, in the worst cases, stop the camcorder from recording. Do not use such a video tape. The recording location is extremely humid or dusty. Using the camcorder in such locations can damage it. REPLACING THE MONITOR'S LAMP The fluorescent lamp backlight used in the monitor eventually needs replacement. When the lamp reaches the end of its capacity, the REPLACE THE LAMP indicator appears in the center of the monitor screen, and the monitor goes off in approximately one minute. When this occurs, purchase a lamp replacement through your local Radio Shack store. To replace the monitor's lamp: 1. Set the power switch to off and wait about 15 minutes for the lamp to cool. CAUTION: Be sure you allow the lamp enough time to cool so you do not burn yourself. 2. Rotate the camcorder lens to expose the fluorescent lamp compartment cover. Use a pointed object such as the point of a pen to push the cover release toward the monitor, and then pull the cover outward to remove it. 3. Use tweezers to grasp the end (white knob) of the fluorescent lamp, and pull the lamp out. 4. Insert the replacement lamp, guiding it straight into the compartment. Do not insert the lamp diagonally, as it might not touch the contacts inside the compartment. 5. Replace the fluorescent lamp compartment cover. NOTE: The lamp might flicker when you first turn on the monitor. If this happens, turn off the camcorder, and then turn it on again. SERVICING Should your camcorder become inoperable, do not try to solve the problem yourself. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Switch off the power and take the camcorder to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW This camcorder complies with the limits for a Class B digital device as specified in Part 15 of FCC Rules. These limits provide reasonable protection against radio and TV interference in a residential area. However, your equipment might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To eliminate interference, you can try one or more of the following corrective measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the distance between the camcorder and the radio/TV. Connect the camcorder to an outlet that is on a different circuit from the one used for the radio/TV. Consult your local Radio Shack store or an experienced radio/TV technician if the problem persists. You must use shielded interface cables with this equipment. Modifying or tampering with the camcorder's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the camcorder's warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your camcorder is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. (EB 4/4/96)
