Model 11 9-Inch TV/VCP (160-0404) Installation Faxback Doc. # 32731 CONTROLS LOCATIONS The TV/VCP's controls are on the front panel and in the control compartment. The main controls are duplicated on the remote control. Other controls are only inside the control compartment. Pull down the right end of the control compartment's panel to open the compartment. HOME INSTALLATION Choose a location in your home where: Air flows freely on all sides of the TV/VCP. The power cord is not in the way of normal traffic. NOTE: Do not plug in the AC cord until you make all connections. CONNECTING ANTENNAS The supplied indoor antenna provides adequate reception in most areas, but for best reception in all areas, use a high-quality outdoor antenna, available at your local Radio Shack store. Connecting the Indoor Antenna Follow these steps to connect the supplied indoor antenna: 1. Insert the post of the VHF/UHF dipole rabbit ear antenna into the socket on top of the TV/VCP's cabinet. 2. Connect the antenna's leads to the supplied matching transformer's terminals. 3. Push the matching transformer onto the TV's ANT IN terminal. 4. Fully extend both elements and adjust them for the best VHF reception. NOTE: To improve UHF reception, shorten the elements. Connecting an Outdoor Antenna For best reception, use a high-quality outdoor antenna. Your local Radio Shack store offers a wide selection of high-quality outdoor TV antennas. Ask the salesperson what size and type is best for your area. NOTES: If you are using a combination VHF/UHF antenna, connect the antenna cable directly to the TV's ANT IN input. Use the supplied matching transformer, if necessary. If you have separate VHF and UHF antennas, connect the separate antenna cables to a signal combiner (available at your local Radio Shack store). Then, connect the combiner's output to the TV's ANT IN input. Refer to your antenna's installation instructions for more information. CONNECTION FOR CABLE TV There are two basic things to consider when you connect your TV/VCP to a cable system. Are you receiving any scrambled channels? Does the cable system use more than 29 channels? If the answer to both questions is "No," connect the cable wire directly to the ANT IN terminal as shown. If the answer to either questions is "Yes," use the following connections. This lets you receive all available channels. This connections requires a splitter and a high-isolation A/B switch (not include). You can buy these items at your local Radio Shack store. NOTES: When you want to watch, non-scrambled cable channels, set the A/B switch to A. Use the TV's tuner or the remote control to select the desired channel. When you want to watch scrambled channels or cable channels not programmed into the tuner memory, set the A/B switch to B. Set the TV to the output channel of the cable box (3 or 4), and use the cable box to select the desired channel. NOTE to CATV System Installer: This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer's attention to Article 820-22 of the National Electrical Code that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building. as close to the point of cable entry as possible. CONNECTING THE AC CORD Attach the smaller end of the supplied AC cord to the AC 120V connector on the back of the TV/VCP. Then, plug the other end into a standard AC outlet. NOTE: You must disconnect the car-battery cord from the TV/VCP before you can use AC power. MOBILE INSTALLATION You can power the TV/VCP with your vehicle's battery. This lets you and others enjoy the system outdoors and lets your passengers enjoy the system on the road. WARNING: Never watch the TV/VCP while you drive your car. CONNECTING ANTENNAS The supplied indoor antenna is adequate when your vehicle is stationary, but for best reception on the road, use a high-quality VHF/UHF mobile TV antenna, available at your local Radio Shack store. If you use the supplied antenna, refer to "Connecting the Indoor Antenna" for the proper connection. If you use a mobile antenna, refer to the instructions provided with the antenna. CONNECTING THE CAR-BATTERY CORD Be sure your vehicle has a 12 volt, negative-ground electrical system. If it is another type, Radio Shack sells the necessary converter. Attach the car-battery cord to the DC 12V connector on the back of the TV/VCP. Then, connect the other end to the cigarette-lighter socket. NOTES: Be sure you use only the supplied car battery cord. Using another cord could damage the TV/VCP. Be sure the socket is free of ashes and other debris. Be sure to push the car-battery cord's plug completely into the cigarette-lighter socket. Always unplug the car-battery cord from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the TV/VCP. You must disconnect the car battery cord from the TV/VCP before you can use AC power. CAUTION: If you use the TV/VCP with the vehicle's engine off, recharge the vehicle's battery after about every 4 hours of use to prevent it from running down. After you finish using the TV/VCP, be sure you unplug the car-battery cord from the cigarette-lighter socket. (LB/all-05/14/96)
