SR-2015 Home Satellite Television System Receiver (160-2513) Operation, Standard Faxback Doc. # 34193 STANDARD SYSTEM OPERATION Operating the standard Radio Shack HSTV system is extremely simple and is explained in this section. And, if you have a VideoCipher II Plus Renewable Security (VCRS) module, there are many additional features you can use. Be sure to also read "VideoCipher Module Operation" and "VideoPal Instant Pay-Per-View", on Faxback Doc. # 34194. Before you begin using your system install batteries in the remote control. See "Installing/Replacing the Remote Control's Batteries", on Faxback Doc. # 34203. TURNING POWER ON OR OFF To turn on the receiver, simply press POWER on the receiver or the remote control. Press POWER again to turn off the receiver. NOTE: Even when the power is off the receiver sends power to the satellite dish and receives signals from the satellite. These signals could be authorization codes for your VideoCipher module or messages from a satellite program provider. To avoid missing these signals, do not unplug the receiver for extended periods or connect the receiver to a switched AC outlet. SETTING THE POLARITY With a single-satellite system, you only need to set the polarity once. Simply press POLARITY on the receiver's front panel, or POL on the remote control, until the appropriate polarity indicator lights. For G5, odd- numbered channels use vertical (VER) polarity and even-numbered channels use horizontal (HOR) polarity. NOTE: The SKEW +/- buttons have no effect on the standard Radio Shack system. They are used to fine tune polarity if you have an old-style feedhorn with a servo-motor polarity device. CHOOSING A CHANNEL To scan through channels, use the CHANNEL /\ - \/ buttons on the receiver or the CH /\ - CH \/ buttons on the remote control. To directly access a particular channel, use the number keys on the remote control. If you press a single number key and do not press another key within 4 seconds, the receiver changes to that channel. You can enter a leading zero to avoid this delay. If you enter a channel number that is out of range (greater than 24 for C-band or greater than 32 for Ku-band) the receiver remains on the previous channel. ADJUSTING THE VOLUME The remote control's VOL /\ - \/ keys adjust the level of the audio signal from the TV OUT terminal and from the AUDIO OUT jacks. When you press either VOL key, the receiver's digital display shows a level indication from 00 to 15. NOTE: Because the VOL keys affect the audio signal from both receiver outputs, do not use the satellite receiver's VOL keys when recording a satellite program. Leave the satellite receiver's audio level set to 15 and use your TV's or stereo system's volume control to adjust the sound level. ADJUSTING THE AUDIO FREQUENCY There are many audio programs available from satellites, in addition to the audio portion of video programs. These satellite radio stations, usually called subcarriers, offer a wide range of music and special information. The audio frequencies range from 5.0 to 8.5 MHz, and most satellite maga- zines list subcarriers along with their frequency and program content listings. To change audio frequencies press either AUDIO key (/\ or \/) on the remote control. The digital display shows the current frequency. The frequency returns to its default setting (usually 6.8 MHz) each time you change channels. his setting provides the audio to accompany the video program. NOTE: All G5 channels use 6.89 MHz as their default audio frequency, but there are a few satellite channels (on the Morelos satellites, for example) that use 6.2 MHz as their default audio frequency. If you want to change the default setting to 6.2 MHz, unplug the receiver. Then hold down the C/Ku button and both AUDIO buttons and plug in the receiver. Repeat this procedure to return to the 6.8 MHz default FINE TUNING THE VIDEO FREQUENCY The SR-2015 is preset to the proper video frequencies for satellite broadcasts. However, in some cases you might slightly improve picture quality by fine tuning this setting. Use the VIDEO /\ / \/ keys on the remote control to change the video frequency. A decimal point flashes at the lower right of the digital display as the frequency changes. When you reach either end of the adjustment range, the decimal point disappears. When you return to the center (default) setting, the digital display flashes twice. NOTE: The video frequency automatically returns to the default setting each time you change channels. USING THE RESET BUTTON If the satellite receiver locks up and does not respond to any remote or front-panel controls, pressing the RESET button on the back of the receiver might correct the problem. Or, you can unplug the receiver for a few minutes and plug it back in. (BR/EB 7/25/96)
