9" Color TV (160-0246A) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6771 USING STANDARD AC POWER Insert the AC plug into a standard AC outlet. NOTE: The power cord has a polarized plug (one of the plug's blades is wider than the other) and will fit into an AC power outlet only one way. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER Using the supplied DC power cord, you can power the TV from a vehicle's battery. 1. Connect the barrel plug to the TV's DC 13.5V jack. 2. Plug the other end of the cord into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. CAUTIONS: The TV can only be used with vehicles that have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. Most vehicles have this type of electrical system, but if you are unsure about your vehicle's type, contact the vehicle dealer. Using the TV with a different electrical system could damage the TV or the vehicle's electrical system. Use only the supplied DC power cord. Using another cord might damage the TV. Do not let the power cord's metal tip touch any metal part of the car while the cord is plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket. Doing so might blow a fuse or possibly damage the cord or the vehicle's electrical system. Always disconnect the cord from the cigarette-lighter socket first. Otherwise, a short circuit could occur that could damage the cord or the vehicle's electrical system. Do not leave the cord connected to the cigarette-lighter when the TV is not in use. If you park your vehicle in the sun, temperatures inside can easily reach levels that could damage your TV. To prevent heat damage, do not leave the TV in a vehicle. CHANGING THE FUSE If the TV does work using vehicle battery power, check the fuse in the DC adapter cord's plug. Unscrew the plug's end a shown to remove the fuse. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a 250V 4A fuse, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1026. Do not use a fuse with a higher rating. CONNECTING THE SUPPLIED ANTENNA The supplied indoor antenna provides adequate reception in many areas. For the best reception in any area, use a high-quality outdoor antenna. Radio Shack offers a wide selection of TV antennas, including ones suitable for car or boat use. Ask a Radio shack salesperson what size and type is best for your purposes. 1. Insert the antenna's base into the socket on the top of the TV. 2. Connect the antenna wires' ends to the terminals on the supplied antenna adapter. 3. Connect the antenna adapter to the antenna terminal on the back of the TV. 4. Fully extend the antenna and adjust it for the best reception. CONNECTING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA (NOT SUPPLIED) The TV has a single 75-ohm terminal for combined VHF/UHF signals. If you have a combined VHF/UHF antenna with a 75-ohm lead-in cable, connect the lead-in cable directly to the EXT.ANT.75 ohms jack on the back of the TV. To connect a 300-ohm twin-lead cable, connect the antenna wire's leads to the terminals on the supplied antenna adapter. Then plug the adapter into the TV's EXT.ANT.75 ohm jack. WARNING: When installing an outdoor antenna, use extreme caution. If the antenna starts to fall, let it go! It could contact overhead power lines. If the antenna touches the power line, contact with the antenna, mast, cable, or guy wires can cause electrocution and death. Call the power company to remove the antenna. Do not attempt to do so yourself. CONNECTING TO CABLE If you subscribe to cable TV, you can receive up to 113 cable channels on your TV. If you do not have a cable box, connect the cable company's 75-ohm cable directly to the EXT.ANT.75 ohm jack on the back of the TV. Use the TV's tuner to select the desired channel. If you receive scrambled channels or if your cable company uses channels outside the TV's tuning range, connect a 75-ohm coaxial cable box to the EXT.ANT.75 ohm jack on the back of the TV. Then set the TV to channel 3 or 4. Use the cable box to select the desired channel. CAUTION: Some states have laws restricting direct connections to cable wires (connections that don't go through the cable box). Check the laws in your area before making any connections. Note to CATV system installer: We provide this reminder to call the CATV system installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as is practical. CABLE CHANNEL DESIGNATIONS When you set the TV to one of the CATV modes (STD, HRC, OR IRC), it receives 113 cable TV channels shown in the table on the next page, 12 VHF (2-13) channels for a total of 125 channels. We suggest that you call your cable company for more information. You still might have to experiment to determine the proper channel designations for your cable system. ┌─────────────────────────────┬────────────────────────────┐ │ │ UHF :2 - 13 │ │ Alternate TV │ Alternate TV │ │ Channel Tuner │ Channel Tuner │ │ Designation Display │ Designation Display │ ├─────────────────────────────┼────────────────────────────┤ │ Low Band Channels │ UHF Band Channels │ ├─────────────┬───────────────┼────────────────────────────┤ │ 5A │ 1 │ W + 30 66 │ │ 02 │ 2 │ W + 31 67 │ │ 03 │ 3 │ W + 32 68 │ │ 04 │ 4 │ W + 33 69 │ │ 05 │ 5 │ W + 34 70 │ │ 06 │ 6 │ W + 35 71 │ ├─────────────┴───────────────┤ W + 36 72 │ │ High Band Channels │ W + 37 73 │ ├─────────────┬───────────────┤ W + 38 74 │ │ 07 │ 7 │ W + 39 75 │ │ 08 │ 8 │ W + 40 76 │ │ 09 │ 9 │ W + 41 77 │ │ 10 │ 10 │ W + 42 78 │ │ 11 │ 11 │ W + 43 79 │ │ 12 │ 12 │ W + 44 80 │ │ 13 │ 13 │ W + 45 81 │ ├─────────────┴───────────────┤ W + 46 82 │ │ Mid Band Channels │ W + 47 83 │ ├─────────────┬───────────────┤ W + 48 84 │ │ A │ 14 │ W + 49 85 │ │ B │ 15 │ W + 50 86 │ │ C │ 16 │ W + 51 87 │ │ D │ 17 │ W + 52 88 │ ├─────────────┼───────────────┤ W + 53 89 │ │ E │ 18 │ W + 54 90 │ │ F │ 19 │ W + 55 91 │ │ G │ 20 │ W + 56 92 │ │ H │ 21 │ W + 57 93 │ │ I │ 22 │ W + 58 94 │ ├─────────────┴───────────────┤ │ │ Super Band Channels ├────────────────────────────┤ ├─────────────┬───────────────┤ Mid Low Channels │ │ J │ 23 ├────────────────────────────┤ │ K │ 24 │ A-5 95 │ │ L │ 25 │ A-4 96 │ │ M │ 26 │ A-3 97 │ │ N │ 27 ├────────────────────────────┤ │ O │ 28 │ Mid Band Channels │ │ P │ 29 ├────────────────────────────┤ │ Q │ 30 │ A-2 98 │ │ R │ 31 │ A-1 99 │ │ S │ 32 ├────────────────────────────┤ │ T │ 33 │ UHF Band Channels │ │ U │ 34 ├────────────────────────────┤ │ V │ 35 │ W + 59 100 │ │ W │ 36 │ W + 60 101 │ ├─────────────┴───────────────┤ W + 61 102 │ │ Hyper Band Channels │ W + 62 103 │ ├─────────────┬───────────────┤ W + 63 104 │ │ W + 1 │ 37 │ W + 64 105 │ │ W + 2 │ 38 │ W + 65 106 │ │ W + 3 │ 39 │ W + 66 107 │ │ W + 4 │ 40 │ W + 67 108 │ │ W + 5 │ 41 │ W + 68 109 │ │ W + 6 │ 42 │ W + 69 110 │ │ W + 7 │ 43 │ W + 70 111 │ │ W + 8 │ 44 │ W + 71 112 │ │ W + 9 │ 45 │ W + 72 113 │ │ W + 10 │ 46 │ W + 73 114 │ │ W + 11 │ 47 │ W + 74 115 │ │ W + 12 │ 48 │ W + 75 116 │ │ W + 13 │ 49 │ W + 76 117 │ │ W + 14 │ 50 │ W + 77 118 │ │ W + 15 │ 51 │ W + 78 119 │ │ W + 16 │ 52 │ W + 79 120 │ │ W + 17 │ 53 │ W + 80 121 │ │ W + 18 │ 54 │ W + 81 122 │ │ W + 19 │ 55 │ W + 82 123 │ │ W + 20 │ 56 │ W + 83 124 │ │ W + 21 │ 57 │ W + 84 125 │ │ W + 22 │ 58 │ │ │ W + 23 │ 59 │ │ │ W + 24 │ 60 │ │ │ W + 25 │ 61 │ │ │ W + 26 │ 62 │ │ │ W + 27 │ 63 │ │ │ W + 28 │ 64 │ │ │ W + 29 │ 65 │ │ └─────────────┴───────────────┴────────────────────────────┘ We suggest that you call your cable company for information. CONNECTING AUDIO/VIDEO DEVICES Using the AUDIO/VIDEO IN Jacks You can connect two audio/video devices (such as a VCR, camcorder, video processor, or laser disc player) directly to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks on the TV. NOTE: Use only shielded video cable with RCA-type connectors. Do not use standard audio cable. Connect the device's audio and video outputs to the corresponding AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks (VIDEO P1 or VIDEO P2) on the back of the TV. Then select and view the device(s) as described in "Using the TV as an Audio/Video Monitor." Using the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT Jacks You can use audio/video cables with RCA-type connectors to connect a VCR or other equipment to the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks on the back of the TV. Also, you can connect an amplifier to the AUDIO OUT jack on the TV. Using the EXT. SPEAKER Jack You can use speaker wire with a 1/8-inch monaural plug to connect an external speaker to the EXT. SPEAKER jack on the back of the TV. NOTE: When you connect an external speaker to the EXT.SPEAKER jack, the sound from the TV's internal speaker is muted. INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES The TV's remote control is powered by two AAA batteries. We recommend Radio Shack's alkaline batteries (Cat. No. 23-555). 1. Remove the battery compartment cover as shown by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Install two AAA batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. If remote control operation becomes erratic or it does not work at all, replace both batteries. CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that damage electronic circuits. (CJD/all-07/12/94)
