Remote Control

To use the Easy VCR Programmer to control your devices, do the following:

1.  Press the device key for the device you want to control.

2.  Point the remote toward the device and press the desired command keys.

    The command keys on the remote operate the same as the keys on the
    device's original remote control; however, the labeling might differ.

PROGRAMMING EVENTS

The Easy VCR Programmer can automatically send the commands to start 
recording any program.  Just tell it what time to start, what channel
to record, and how long to record, and it takes care of all details.

SETTING UP THE REMOTE WITH CABLE TV

If you tune to stations using a cable TV box and leave the VCR's tuner set
to a single channel, follow these steps to set up the Easy VCR Programmer:

1.  Press SHIFT - VCRPRO - 3 - CBL.  The remote displays:

2.  Enter the channel (from the choices on the screen) you leave the VCR
    tuned to when you view cable TV channels.

    For example, if you leave the VCR set to Channel 3, press 3.  The
    remote displays:

    To determine whether you need to do the custom setup, see "Custom
    Setup."  If you do not proceed to Step 3.

3.  Press NO.  The remote displays:

4.  Press YES.  Then point the remote at your devices and follow the 
    instructions as they appear on the remote's display.

SETTING UP THE REMOTE WITHOUT CABLE TV

If you do not have cable TV, or if you tune to channels using VCR's tuner,
follow these steps:

1.  Press SHIFT - VCRPRO - 3 - VCR.  The remote displays:

    To determine whether you need to do the custom setup, see "Custom
    Setup."  Otherwise, proceed to Step 2.

2.  Press NO.  The remote displays:

    Press YES.  Then point the remote at your devices and follow the
    instructions as they appear on the remote's display.

CUSTOMER SETUP

You might need to answer YES to "Do Custom Setup?" if you can answer yes
to any of the following questions:

  Do you have to press ENTER on your original remote after you enter a
  channel number?

  Does the device you use to select channels need 3- or 4-digit channel
  numbers?

  Does your cable TV converter not have a power switch.

  Does your VCR not have a power switch?

  Do you have to press RECORD, then press PLAY to start recording?

  Does your VCR or cable TV converter need long pauses between commands?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, follow these steps.

1. Press YES at the "Do Custom Setup?" prompt.  The remote displays:

2.  Enter the number of digits you enter to select a channel.  For
    example, if you normally enter three digits (such as 115), enter 3.
    The remote displays.

3.  If your cable TV converter has a power switch, answer YES.  If your
    cable TV converter is always on when the power cord is plugged in,
    answer NO.  The remote displays:

4.  If you must press ENTER on the cable TV converter's remote control to
    select a channel after you enter the channel number, answer YES.
    Otherwise, answer NO.  The remote displays:

5.  If your VCR has a power switch, answer YES.  If your VCR is always on
    when the power cord is plugged in, answer NO.  The remote displays:

6.  If you must press ENTER on the VCR's remote control to select a
    channel number, answer YES.  Otherwise, answer NO.  The remote
    displays:

7.  If your VCR or cable TV converter needs a long pause between each
    command, answer YES.  Otherwise, answer NO.  The remote displays:

8.  If you must press PLAY after you press RECORD to begin recording,
    answer YES.  Otherwise, answer NO.  Proceed with the original
    instructions.

ONE-TIME RECORDING

Follow these steps to set the remote to send the commands to your VCR
to record a single event, one time.  Press VCRPRO at any time if you make
a mistake and want to start over.

1.  Press VCRPRO.  The remote displays.

2.  Press NO.  The remote displays.

3.  Use the number buttons to enter the channel you want the VCR to record
    from.  For example, press 05.  The remote displays:

4.  Use the number buttons to enter the start time.  Then press AM or PM
    to set the time of day.  For example, press 0900 PM.  The remote
    displays:

5.  Use the number buttons to enter the length of the program you want to
    record (in hours and minutes).  For example, press 100.  The remote
    displays:

6.  Use the number buttons to enter the event's date.  Then use the VOL up
    or down buttons to set the event's month and year.

7.  Press PLAY to confirm all settings.  The remote displays the channel,
    day, time, and length of the event.

8.  Press VCRPRO to return to the normal display.

9.  Set down the remote so it points at the VCR (and cable TV converter,
    if you use one).  At the set time, the remote sends the appropriate
    commands to the devices.

Repeat these steps to program additional events.

DAILY/WEEKLY RECORDING

Follow these steps to set the remote to send the commands to your VCR to
record a program every day at the same time or every week on the same day
and time.  Press VCRPRO at any time if you make a mistake and want to
start over.

1.  Press VCRPRO.  The remote displays:

2.  Press YES.  The remote displays the days of the week.  The second line
    indicates the days you have selected to record on.

3.  Press FF or REW to choose the day(s) of the week you want to record
    on.  When the arrow is under the day of the week, press YES (up arrow)
    to record on that day or press NO (down arrow) to record on that day.
    If you press NO (down arrow ), the day of the week disappears from
    the bottom line.

4.  Press PLAY to set the days of the weeks.  The remote displays:

5.  Use the number buttons to enter the channel number you want to record
    from.  For example, press 08.  The remote displays:

6.  Use the number buttons to enter the start time.  Then press AM or PM
    to set the time of day.  For example, press 0800 PM.  The remote
    displays:

7.  Use the number buttons to enter the length of the program you want to
    record in hours and minutes.  For example, press 100.  The remote
    displays:

8.  Since the date is not needed for daily/weekly recordings, press PLAY
    to skip this setting.

9.  Press PLAY.  The remote displays the channel, day, time, and length
    of the program.

10.  Press VCRPRO to return to the normal display.

11.  Set down the remote so it points at the devices.  At the set time,
     the remote sends the appropriate commands to your VCR and cable TV
     decoder.

REVIEWING PROGRAMMED EVENTS

Follow these steps to review the events programmed into your remote:

1.  Press VCRPRO.  The remote displays:

2.  Press NO.  The remote displays your next scheduled event.

3.  Press arrow down to scroll through the rest of the entries or up arrow
    to scroll through past events.

4.  Press VCRPRO to return to the normal display.

CLEARING PROGRAMMED EVENTS

Follow these steps to erase an event from the remote's memory.

1.  Press VCRPRO.  The remote displays:

2.  Press NO.  The remote displays your next scheduled events.

3.  Press down arrow or up arrow to display the events you want to delete.

4.  Press M.  The remote displays:

5.  Press YES to delete the setting.

6.  Press VCRPRO to return to the normal display.

USING ADDITIONAL FEATURES

IMMEDIATE RECORDING

Follow these steps to use the Easy VCR Programmer to quickly set your
VCR to immediately begin recording:

7.  Press r twice.  The Easy VCR Programmer tells your VCR to begin
    recording.  You do not have to press VCR first.

8.  Press s to stop recording.  The Easy VCR Programmer tells your VCR
    to stop recording.  You do not have to press VCR first.

MOVING THE KEY FUNCTIONS

Some devices (such as some cable TV converters) do not have volume
controls.  When you use these devices, and when the remote is set to
send cable TV commands, you might find it handy to program the Easy VCR
Programmer to send volume control commands to your TV.

The following procedure lets you copy a key function from one mode to
another key and mode.  In this example, we set the remote so up arrow
turns up the TV's volume, even when the remote is set to CBL.

9.  Press the device button (VCR, AUX, TV, or CBL) for the mode in which
    you want to change a button function.  For example, press CBL.

10.  Press SHIFT - VCRPRO - 5.  The remote displays:

11.  Press the device button for the command you want to copy from.  For
     example, press TV (since we will move the TV's up arrow command to
     the CBL mode).

12.  Press the device button for the command you want to copy.  For
     example, press CBL.

13.  Press the button you want to copy.  For example, press up arrow.
     Then press the button you want to copy into.  For our example,
     press up arrow again.  This moves the TV mode's up arrow command to
     the CBL mode's up arrow command.

To have the remote send the original command, press SHIFT, then the
command button.  For example, to send the CBL mode's up arrow command,
press SHIFT - up arrow.

PROGRAMMING A SEQUENCE

You can program sequences into your remote control which allow you to send
commands by simply pressing SHIFT and then a button.  Follow these steps
to program a sequence:

1.  Press the device button (VCR, AUX, TV, or CBL) you want to store the
    sequence under.  For example, press VCR.

2.  Press SHIFT - VCRPRO - 6.

3.  Press the key you want to program the sequence into twice.  For
    example, press PWR twice.

4.  Enter the sequence.  For example, to turn on your VCR, TV, and cable
    TV converter, then tune the cable TV converter to Channel 21, press:
    VCR-PWR-TV-PWR-CBL-PWR-21.

5.  Press VCRPRO to save the sequence.

To send a sequence, press the device button you stored the sequence under.
Then press SHIFT and the button you programmed the sequence into. To send
the commands in the example we used, you would press VCR - SHIFT - PWR.
