LEDs

ON           Lights when the printer is switched on, and remains lit until
             the printer is switched off.

ON LINE    - Lit, indicates that the printer is in ON LINE condition
           - Flashing slowly, indicates a warning condition (no paper,
             end of ink detected - operator intervention required)
           - Off, indicates that the printer is in OFF LINE condition.

At printer switch-on, after the correct execution of the mechanical reset,
the ON LED will be lit and the ON LINE LED will be off.

Keys

The key functions depend on the printer operating status.  When it is
switched on, the printer will be in one of the following conditions:

Operating states

    ON LINE (READY), with ON LINE LED on.
    The printer is ready to receive data or data is being processed and
    printed.

    OFF LINE, with ON LINE LED off.
    State imposed by the operator, who has pressed the ON LINE key.  Any
    printing operation is suspended; operator intervention is required to
    execute a specific function or to return the printer ON LINE (using ON
    LINE key).

    WARNING, with ON LINE LED flashing slowly.
    State caused by lack of paper or ink during a printing operation;
    operator intervention is required to load paper or replace print
    head/ink cartridge, and then to return the printer ON LINE using FORM
    FEED key.

Functional states

One or other of the following two states will always be present in ON LINE
or OFF LINE conditions.

  FREE:  When there is no data to be printed.

  BUSY:  From the reception of data until the completion of its printing.

In On LINE status (READY - ON LINE LED on) only the following two keys
are enabled:

ON LINE     Sets the printer in OFF LINE status and moves the print head
            carriage to its rest position at the physical right margin.
            The ON LINE LED goes off and any printing operation is
            suspended.

FORM FEED   If the printer is FREE, commands the manual insertion of a
            single sheet of paper to the Top of Form (TOF) position
            (even if insertion from paper tray is selected  - selector E
            OFF).  If paper is already present in the printer, causes its
            expulsion.  If the printer is BUSY and paper has already been
            inserted, executes the "FLUSH" function which consists of the
            immediate printing of any pending data, and the expulsion of
            the printed sheet.

In Off LINE status (ON LINE LED on), the following keys are enabled:

ON LINE     Sets the printer ON LINE.
            The ON LINE LED lights.

LINE FEED   With paper inserted, executes a single line feed (currently-
            programmed value).

FORM FEED   Has the following functions:

            - If paper is present in printer, expels it
            - If there is no paper in the printer, commands the manual
              insertion of a single sheet of paper to the Top of Form
              (TOF) position (even if insertion from paper tray is
               selected - selector E OFF).

Other functions

LINE FEED +  Pressing and holding down this key while switching on the
POWER ON     printer, causes the print test to be printed.

ON LINE +    Pressing and holding down these two keys together while
LINE FEED +  switching on the printer, causes all subsequent data
POWER ON     transmitted to the printer to be printed in its hexadecimal
             format.
