Citizen PROjet II (260-2957) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 14709

If you have problems while working with the printer, check through the
following list, to see if you can find the cause of the problem.

Installation

1. Printer does not switch on.

No power supply (the ON LED is off).

Check that the printer is switched on.

Check that the power cord is inserted correctly in the wall outlet.

2. No initial reset.

At switch-on, the print head carriage does not move.

Check that the carriage path is free of impediment.

Try switching the printer off and then on again.

If the ON LINE LED is flashing rapidly, there is a failure on the
motherboard; contact your dealer, service center or Citizen directly.

3. Print test did not run.

Switch off the printer, than switch it on again, remembering to hold
down LINE FEED until the mechanical reset is completed.

If the carriage does not move, check that its path is not obstructed.

If the ON LINE LED flashes slowly:

    - There is no paper in the printer; load paper in the paper input tray
      and press FORM FEED.

    - The print head/ink cartridge needs replacing; remember to press FORM
FEED once you have changed the print/ink cartridge.

    - Check that the print head is inserted correctly; if not, remove
and reinsert it. Remember to press FORM FEED once you have
      reinserted the print head.

4. Problems with connection to host.

Check that your interface cable is of the correct type.

Make sure you have fixed the interface connectors properly both to the
    printer and to the host.

Check that you have configured your application correctly.

Paper

CAUTION: Always use paper in perfect condition and within the
          specifications defined.

1. No paper.

If, on a print command, there is no paper to load in the printer, the
printer goes into WARNING status and the ON LINE LED flashes slowly.

To clear this condition, load more paper in the paper tray or (if the
manual paper feed feature is selected - selector E in position ON)
place a sheet of paper on the paper insertion support, with its left
edge aligned with the left margin guide and its leading edge against
the insertion rollers and press FORM FEED.

2. Paper does not load.

Check that the size and weight of the paper used are within the limits
    allowed.

Make sure the paper is not feeding in crookedly.

Make sure that selector E is positioned correctly (OFF for paper feed
    from paper input tray).

Paper jamming - point 4 in this section.

3. Single sheets/envelopes not loaded (or loaded incorrectly).

The paper/envelope has been inserted incorrectly (not aligned with the
appropriate margin guide - left for single sheet, right for envelopes
(short side), and not inserted against the feed rollers).

If you application program does not send a paper feed command,
position a sheet of paper manually and press FORM FEED.

Remove all the paper from the paper tray, leaf it thoroughly, and then
reload it, aligning it correctly in the tray.

4. Paper jams or tears.

If the paper has already exited from the print area:

    - Set the printer OFF LINE.

    - Open the paper tray, using the levers on the lower front of the
      printer.

    - Open the top cover and remove the jammed paper.

To resume printing, close the front cover and the paper tray, and then
    press ON LINE.

If the paper jams inside the paper tray:

    - Switch OFF the printer

    - Open the top cover

    - Open the paper tray, using the levers on the lower front of the
      printer

    - Remove the paper insertion support (which also serves as the paper
      tray cover)

    - Remove the jammed paper, drawing it out carefully

    - Replace the paper insertion support

    - Remove the remaining paper from the rear of the paper input tray,
check it for and remove any damaged sheets, re-fan it and reload it
      in the tray.

    - Close the paper tray

    - Close the top cover

    - Switch on the printer

CAUTION: The most common causes of paper jamming inside the paper tray is
the addition of paper to the tray when this is not empty and/or
the incorrect loading of paper. When adding paper to the paper
tray or after removing jammed paper, ALWAYS remove any paper
already in the tray and reload it all as a single pack.

Printing

1. Printer does not print/receive data.

Check that the printer is switched on (the ON LED on the operator

Check the physical (cables) and logical (application and driver)
connections between the printer and host.

Check that the printer is ON LINE (ON LINE LED on), and that the host
    system is switched on.

If the carriage does not move and the ON LINE LED flashes rapidly,
switch the printer off, remove the cause of the blockage and then
    switch the printer on again.

Check that you have removed the protective film from the print head.

If the ON LINE LED flashes slowly:

    - Check that the paper loads correctly.

    - Check that the print head is inserted correctly

    - The print head/cartridge requires replacing
Remove the used print head/cartridge, replace it with a new print

place a sheet of paper on the paper insertion support) and press FORM
    FEED.

    The print head/cartridge requires replacing.
Remove the used print head/cartridge, replace it with a new print
    head/cartridge and press FORM FEED.
