Western Digital Hard (250-0105/6) Features Faxback Doc. # 15664 Disk Upgrade Kits The Western Digital hard drive is an enhanced IDE drive, which means that the controller circuitry and 40-pin IDE connector are mounted directly on the hard drive. It does not require a separate controller card if your system provides a 40-pin IDE connector on the motherboard or a controller card. Enhanced IDE (EIDE) drives support the increased data transfer rates and higher capacities in systems that are EIDE ready. Some of the features of EIDE are: Higher capacities - up to 8.4 GB per device Supports up to four EIDE devices per system Faster host data transfer rates Easier setup and autodetection of drives Supports CD-ROM and tape drives Compatible with standard IDE drives Because of its compact size (1-inch high), the Western Digital hard drive is easily incorporated into the newest generation of small desktop and transportable PC/AT systems. The Western Digital hard drive is a 3.5-inch hard drive that can be used in a 3.5-inch bay or in a 5.25-inch bay using the 5.25-inch mounting frame kit included. Western Digital hard drives contain an automatic head parking feature that parks the drive heads in a safe, non-data area when the system power is turned off. This allows you to move the computer system without damaging the hard drive head media. Third-party head-parking software is not needed. The Western Digital hard drive is low-level formatted and defect free. DO NOT LOW-LEVEL FORMAT YOUR WESTERN DIGITAL HARD DRIVE. Although you can use your Western Digital hard drive with Disk Operating System (DOS) versions as early as 3.3, we recommend upgrading to DOS 5.0 or above. (ALL-06/13/95)
