Western Digital (250-0105/6) Installation Hints Faxback Doc. # 16251 Hard Disk Upgrade Kits The larger Western Digital hard drives may not work correctly in some computer systems. One of the ways to work around this problem is as follows: Install the 850 MB IDE drive as the primary drive in the system. Go into the SETUP program for that computer. If there is an option for the IDE interface to be enabled, check to be sure it is. Do NOT define a drive as installed. Boot system with current version of MS-DOS. Swap diskettes for the Disk Manager utility. Run the software, answering all of the questions. Reboot system. Hard drive should work with no problems. In the testing it has been found that some other vendor drives may not be compatible in this configuration. An example is a Quantum 170 MB drive with the Western Digital 850 MB drive in the Tandy 4833LX/T system - the 850 MB drive was unable to configure correctly as the primary drive. (CSC/all-08/01/95)
