PC Sound System Plus (250-1701) Windows95 Installation Faxback Doc. # 17300 The PC Sound System Plus does work in Windows95, but Windows 95 will not load any 32 bit drivers for it. If you select Device Manager in Control Panel it doesn't list anything for the PC Sound System. If you are upgrading from Windows 3.1, just run the upgrade and the sound card should continue to work. If it does not DO NOT go under add hardware. First, there is not a listing for the PC Sound System Plus or anything compatible. And even if you try to use the "have disk" option it is looking for a *.inf file and the sound utilities disk doesn't have one. To get it to work, follow these steps: 1. First verify that under device manger there is not anything listed under sound, video and game controllers. If there is remove it. It will cause a conflict the drivers on the install disk. 2. To begin the installation of the drivers, click on the start button on your tool bar, select "run" and then type a:install a: c:. This will create a directory called C:\SP2 3. After it has completed creating the directory and its sub directories go under add new hardware and select sound, video, and game adapters. 4. Then select the have disk . It will by default look at the a drive. Click on browse and change to the c drive. Back out to the root directory ,then open the SP2 directory and go to the windows subdirectory. It should by default select the oemsetup.inf that is located in the directory. 5. After loading the oemsetup.inf file you should see a box called Select Device with two drivers on the screen to choose from called: Multimedia Sound Card FM Synth Multimedia Sound Card Wave/Midi 6. Select Multimedia Sound Card FM Synth and click on ok . 7. To install the wav/midi driver tell windows you don't want to restart and then repeat steps 3 through 5. 8. After you select the the wave/midi driver and tell windows to install it. It will ask you about the DMA and IRQ settings. 9. After that restart windows and assuming you selected the correct IRQ's and DMA you should have sound. NOTE: These drivers WILL NOT appear in the device manager.
