PLAYING COMPACT DISCS INTRODUCTION Your CDR-1000 not only reads information from data discs, but also uses the latest digital audio technology for sound reproduction. You can play compact discs (CDs) on the CD-ROM drive while you use your computer to run programs from your computer's hard drive or diskette drive. CAUTION: Compared to analog audio, such as standard LP records, the noise level of CDs is very low. Do not set the sound level of the headphones or speakers by listening to the noise level. A high volume setting might damage your hearing or the speakers. To avoid this, first set the control on the front of the drive labeled VOLUME to minimum. Then, gradually increase the level to the desired volume. Before you play a CD, do the following: 1. Load a CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. If you want to use headphones, insert the headphones' 1/8-inch plug into the jack labeled PHONES. NOTES: * If you are not using headphones, connect the CD-ROM's output jacks, labeled R and L, to an external amplifier. * Both the headphone jack and the audio output jacks are turned on when you play an audio disc. THE AUDIO PLAY PROGRAM You can play discs by running the Audio Play program from the CDR-1000 Device Driver diskette.
