Speaker Wall Jack (400-0985) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14004 CHOOSING A LOCATION Choose a location for the wall plate where: Either wiring exists, or you can easily run wire through the partition(s)/ wall (s) to the location. The location does not interfere with electrical wiring or framing members behind the wall. INSTALLATION 1. Draw an outline on the wall in pencil measuring 1-3/4 x 4 inches (4.4 x 10.2 cm). 2. Drill a 3/s-inch (1 cm) hole in two corners of the outline. 3. Using a saber saw or keyhole saw, make four cuts as shown along the outline. 4. Run wiring from the source (amplifier/receiver, etc.) through the partition(s) and bring it out through the cut opening. Installation Hint: Use color-coded speaker wire to help you identify the polarity (+ and - sides). 5. Carefully remove about 1/2 inch (.5 cm) of insulation from the ends of the wire. Twist the ends and solder the wire to the terminals on the back of the wall plate. Be careful to match the polarity (use + for the hot side). 6. Assemble the two mounting brackets (formed and flat strips), mount them in the opening, and twist them to fit the opening as shown. Tighten the four screws between the brackets. 7. Install the wall plate and secure it to the brackets using the supplied screws. 8. Prepare speaker hookup wires by removing 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) of insulation from the ends. Twist the ends so there are no stray strands. 9. Install the wires in the wall plate by pressing a rectangular button on the plate, inserting the wire, and releasing the button. Caution: Be sure your amplifier/receiver is turned off when you connect the wires. Important: Be sure to connect the speakers to the jacks so their polarities match (+ with +, and - with -). If you are not sure you have connected the speakers in phase (proper polarity), take one of the cables and reverse the + and - connections. If the low notes sound muffled, reverse the connections.
