SCP-66 (140-1207) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 14134 INSTALLING BATTERIES To power the SCP-66, you need two AA batteries. For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552/557. You can also use rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, (Cat. No. 23-125) with a battery charger (Cat. No. 23-133). Caution: Do not mix different battery types, such as rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries, or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it off in the direction of the arrow. 2. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Note: When tapes no longer play at their normal speed, replace the batteries. USING HEADPHONES OR SPEAKERS To connect headphones or an amplified speaker system to your SCP-66, insert the headphones or speaker's 1/8-inch plug into the SCP-66's jack. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use the headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. Traffic Safety Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. USING THE BELT CLIP The belt clip lets you keep your hands free while you listen to the SCP- 66. To attach the belt clip, slide it into the slot on the back of the SCP-66. To remove the belt clip, push down on the tab and slide if off in the opposite direction shown by the arrow. (TK/all-03/14/95)
