AMX 9 Amplified Speaker (400-1323) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14181 System BATTERY INSTALLATION Each speaker requires four C batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. Alkaline battery life is approximately 40 hours at rated outputs. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. To remove the battery compartment cover on the back of each speaker, push the latch in the direction of the arrow and lift up the cover. 2. Insert batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Caution: If you do not plan to use the speaker system for a week or more, remove the batteries. Replace old batteries with fresh ones. Old batteries can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits. AC POWER You can also operate your speaker system with AC power by using an AC adapter (Cat. No. 273-1655) and a Y-cable (Cat. No. 2731649). Follow these instructions to use AC power. Caution: The recommended adapter supplies 6 volts with the center tip set to negative and delivers the 700 milliamps the speaker system draws, and its plug properly fits the recommended Y-cable. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the speaker system or the adapter. 1. Set the voltage on the adapter to 6V. 2. Insert the green-tipped plug into the adapter cord so one side of the combined plugs reads TIP-NEG. 3. Insert the green-tipped end of the adapta-plug into the Y-cable. 4. Insert the Y-cable's plugs into the DC 6V jack on the back of each speaker. 5. Plug the adapter into any standard AC outlet. CONNECTION Follow these instructions to connect your radio/tape or CD player to the speaker system. 1. Connect the red plug of the supplied speaker cable to the right speaker and the white plug to the left speaker. 2. Insert the cable's 1/8-inch plug into the headphones jack of your radio/tape or CD player. Note: If your radio/tape or CD player has a 1/4-inch jack, you need an adapter plug such as Cat. No. 274-367. For more distance, use a cable such as Cat. No. 42-2460. (ALL-04/03/95)
