SCR-62 (140-0709) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 15038 ERASE PROTECTION TABS Most cassette tapes have two erases protection tabs - one for each side of the tape. When a tab is in place, you can record on that tape side. When the tab is not in place, you cannot record on that side. When you want to keep a recording, break out the erase protection tabs with a screwdriver or similar object. You cannot press RECORD when a tape with the erase protection tab removed is loaded in the cassette compartment. If you later decide to record on the tape, place a piece of strong tape over the slots. NOTES: When covering the holes, cover only the position that was originally protected by the plastic tab. Removing the erase protection tabs does not prevent a bulk eraser from erasing the tape. RECORDING OVER OR ERASING A CASSETTE TAPE To record over a cassette tape, simply record as usual. The cassette records over the previous recording. Or, use a bulk tape eraser (available at your local Radio Shack store) to quickly erase both sides of a cassette tape. RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times, it might become tightly wound on the tape reels, causing sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, completely rewind it, then gently tap each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat surface to loosen the reels. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette. (LB/all-04/27/95)
