CD-3360 (420-5028) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16683 HANDLING CDS Always hold the CD by the edges and always keep it in its protective case or sleeve when it is not in use. Fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser beam from correctly reading the digital information. PLAYING A CD The CD player can play standard or 3-inch CDs. Follow these steps to play a CD. 1. Select a power source. 2. Set VOLUME to the minimum level. 3. Plug a pair of stereo headphones with a 1/8-inch plug (not included) into the CD player's headphones jack. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide variety of stereo headphones. 4. Set POWER ON/OFF to ON. 5. Press OPEN and lift open the disc cover. CAUTION: Remove the sticker and plastic laser track protector before you operate the CD player. Trying to play a CD with the protector in place could damage the player. 6. Carefully place the CD label side up over the disc compartment's center hub. Be sure to lay the disc flat in the compartment. 7. Close the disc cover. The display shows the total number of tracks. Then, 0 appears on the display. 8. Put on the headphones. Then, press PLAY/PAUSE. Track 1 begins to play and the display shows the current track number. Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level. To enhance the bass sound, set E-BASS OUT/IN to IN. When the last track finishes playing, the CD player automatically stops and displays 0. To stop playing the CD before it ends, press STOP/CLEAR. Hearing Comfort and Your Health Do not listen at extremely high volume levels, especially when using headphones. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Traffic Safety Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. SPECIAL FEATURES The CD player includes the following special features: Automatic Search Music System (ASMS) Audible Search Sequence Programming Intro Scan Repeat Play Pause/Cue USING THE AUTOMATIC SEARCH MUSIC SYSTEM You can use the Automatic Search Music System (ASMS) during regular or programmed play to quickly locate any track on a CD. To return to the beginning of the current track, press l<<. Press the button again before the track starts to return to the beginning of the previous track. The track number flashes as the CD player searches for the beginning of the track. Then, the track begins playing. To move to the beginning of the next track, press >>l. You can also use the ASMS feature before you begin regular play. In the stop mode, press l<< or >>l repeatedly to select the first track you want to play. Then, press PLAY/PAUSE. USING AUDIBLE SEARCH Use audible search during play to rapidly search forward or backward to locate a specific section of a track. During audible search, the CD plays at a lower volume and a higher speed. To search forward, press and hold down >>. NOTE: If you press and hold down >> after the last track on the CD ends, the last track repeats and audible search continues. To Search backward, press and hold down <<. Release the button to resume normal play. USING SEQUENCE PROGRAMMING You can program up to 20 tracks on a CD to play in any order you choose. You can program the same track to play more than once. To program and play a sequence of tracks, do the following: 1. Set POWER ON/OFF to ON. 2. Press MEM. MEMORY flashes on the display. 3. Press either >>l or l<< to display the number of the first track you want to program. 4. Press MEM to store the selected track number in the first memory position. The track number on the display changes to 0. 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each track you want to program, up to 20 tracks. NOTE: If you try to store more than 20 tracks in memory, 0E appears on the display. To play the programmed sequence, press PLAY/PAUSE. MEMORY lights steadily and the first track in the sequence plays. While you play the programmed sequence, you can use l<< or >>l to move backward or forward in the sequence. To clear the programmed sequence from memory, press STOP/CLEAR after you stop the CD player, press OPEN, or set POWER ON/OFF to OFF. MEMORY disappears from the display. Checking or Adding to the Programmed Sequence To check the programmed sequence, press MEM. The display shows the number of the first programmed track. Each time you press MEM, the display shows the number of the next track in the sequence. To add to the end of the programmed sequence, press MEM until 0 appears on the display. Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 under "Using Sequence Programming." USING INTRO SCAN The intro scan feature lets you listen to the first 10 seconds of each track on a CD or each track you programmed in a sequence. Before or during play, press INTRO. INTRO appears on the display. Before play, intro scan starts from the first track or the first programmed track. If you press INTRO during play, intro scan starts at the beginning of the current track. To cancel intro scan, press INTRO. INTRO disappears from the display and the CD player resumes normal play. USING REPEAT PLAY Your CD Player can repeat the following: A single track you select The entire CD A programmed sequence To repeat a single track, do the following: Before or during regular or programmed play, press REPEAT until REPEAT 1 appears on the display. At the end of the track, the CD player repeats the track. To repeat an entire CD or a series of programmed tracks, do the following: Before or during regular or programmed play, press REPEAT until REPEAT appears on the display. When the player reaches the end of the CD or the end of a programmed sequence, it returns to the first track and replays all the tracks in the same order. To cancel repeat play, press REPEAT so that neither REPEAT 1 nor REPEAT appears on the display. USING PAUSE AND CUE Pausing a Track To temporarily stop play, press PLAY/PAUSE. The pause indicator ll flashes on the display. Press PLAY/PAUSE to resume play. Cuing a Track You can also use PLAY/PAUSE to cue a track for play at a later time. When the CD player is stopped, press l<< or >>l to display the track you want to cue. Then, press PLAY/PAUSE twice. The pause indicator ll flashes on the display. To cue a track in a programmed sequence, press PLAY/PAUSE twice when the CD player is stopped. The pause indicator ll flashes on the display. Then, press l<< or >>l to display the track you want to cue. When you want to play the cued track, press PLAY/PAUSE. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL You can use the supplied remote control to operate the VOLUME, PLAY/PAUSE, STOP/CLEAR, and ASMS >>l controls while the CD player is in its carrying case. To connect the remote control, follow these steps: 1. Plug the remote control's smaller plug into the CD player's REMOTE jack. 2. Plug the remote control's other plug into the CD player's headphones jack. 3. Set the remote control's VOL control to the minimum position. NOTE: If the CD player's main volume control is set to minimum, the remote control's volume control has no effect. 4. Connect a pair of stereo headphones with a 1/8-inch plug into the remote control's headphones jack. NOTE: The remote control's volume control is secondary to the CD player's volume control. To prevent distortion, never set the CD player's volume control above the maximum intended volume level. USING THE CD PLAYER WITH YOUR HOME AUDIO SYSTEM You can use your CD player with your home audio system so that you can benefit from the system's amplifier and full-size speakers. Connect the supplied Y-cable's 1/8-inch plug to the CD player's LINE OUT jack. Then, connect the phono plugs on the other end of the cable to the CD, AUX, or TV audio input jacks on your amplifier/receiver. If the jacks on your equipment do not match the plugs on the cable, check your local Radio Shack store for the proper adapter. NOTE: The CD player's and remote control's VOL control affects the volume level only when you connect headphones. CAUTION: To avoid speaker damage, set your amplifier/receiver's volume control to the minimum level before you play a CD. After the CD player begins to play, slowly increase the volume. Other Connection Options You can connect amplified speakers to your CD player. Your local Radio Shack store sells a selection of these speakers. You can also listen to the CD player through your car's stereo, using a CD-to-cassette adapter (Cat. No. 12-1951). (br/all-08/24/95)
