Infrared Wireless Monaural Headphone System (330-1141) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 16847 PLACING THE TRANSMITTER The transmitter sends out an infrared signal in a 30-degree, conical pattern. Since infrared light rays travel in a straight line, place the transmitter at the same height or slightly higher than the expected height of the headphones' receiver. NOTES: Since sunlight also contains infrared light, avoid placing the system outdoors, near a window, in a sun room, or any place where the light might prevent optimum transmission. Do not point the transmission directly toward a window. The infrared signals do not reflect well and reception might be poor. Do not place any object between the transmitter and the receiver which might block the infrared transmission. An AM radio might interfere with the system's transmitting circuitry. If this occurs separate the system and the radio by a larger distance. Connecting the Transmitter to Your Audio Source You can connect the transmitter to your audio source's mono headphone jack or to its audio output phono jack. Follow these steps to connect the transmitter to your audio source's mono headphone jack. 1. Insert the transmitter cable's phono plug into the phono jack end of one of the supplied adapters. 2. Insert the adapter's 1/8-or 1/4-inch plug into the audio source's mono headphone jack. Or, you can simply insert the transmitter cable's phono plug directly into your audio source's monaural audio output jack. Connecting the Transmitter to Power To power the transmitter, insert the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into the DC IN jack on the back of the transmitter. Then plug the adapter's other end into a standard AC outlet. WARNING: To avoid shock hazard, do not leave the adapter plugged into the AC outlet when the barrel plug is not plugged into the transmitter. CAUTION: The supplied AC adapter supplies 12 volts and delivers at 200 milliamps. Its center tip is set to negative and its plug correctly fits the transmitter's DC IN jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the transmitter or the adapter. INSTALLING THE HEADPHONES' BATTERIES To power the headphones receiver, you need two AAA batteries. For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555. Follow these steps to install the batteries. NOTE: If the battery indicator does not light or lights dimly when you set OFF/ON on the headphone receiver to ON, replace the batteries. 1. To remove the battery compartment cover, slide it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Remove and discard the old batteries (if necessary). CAUTIONS: Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in the headphones. Batteries can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. 3. Place two fresh AAA batteries in the battery compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) inside the compartment. 4. Replace the cover. NOTE: If you do not plan to use the headphones for a month or more, remove and store the batteries. (LB/all-09/14/95)
