While holding down TIME, press and hold down (or repeatedly press) HOUR until the hour setting is correct. Note: The PM indicator lights for PM hours. 2. While holding down TIME, press and hold down (or repeatedly press) MINUTE until the minutes setting is correct. 3. Release TIME. 4. If desired, you can set the seconds by holding down SLEEP and ALARM SET, then pressing HOUR to reset the seconds to 00. (If the seconds setting was more than 30, the minutes setting advances by 1.) Or, while holding down SLEEP and ALARM SET, you can press and hold down MINUTE to stop the clock from advancing. When the displayed minutes and seconds setting is correct, release all three buttons. ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY Set DIMMER for the desired display brightness. PLAYING THE RADIO WARNING: To prevent possible hearing loss, turn VOLUME to its lowest setting before you turn on the radio. Follow these steps to listen to the radio. 1. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to ON. 2. Set TAPE (RADIO OFF) RADIO to RADIO. 3. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 4. Set FM/AM to select the band. 5. Adjust TUNING to select the desired radio station. 6. To turn off the radio, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF. NOTE: The AM antenna is built-in. Adjust the radio's position for the best AM reception. The power cord serves as an FM antenna. Fully extend the power cord for the best FM reception. PLAY A CASSETTE TAPE WARNING: To prevent possible hearing loss, turn VOLUME to its lowest setting before you begin playing a cassette tape. Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Press OPEN to open the cassette compartment door. 2. Slide a cassette tape into the slot in the cassette compartment door. Be sure the cassette's open edge is facing out and the full reel is to the left. 3. Close the compartment door. 4. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to ON. 5. Set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE. 6. Press PLAY to play the tape. 7. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 8. The tape automatically stops when it reaches the end. To stop the tape sooner, press STOP. To play the other side of the cassette tape, turn over the tape and reload it. NOTES: To fast-forward the tape, press FAST-F. Avoid using C-120 cassette tapes. They are very thin and easily become tangled in the tape-handling parts. USING THE ALARM You can set an alarm so the buzzer sounds or the radio or cassette player begins playing at a specified time. Follow these steps to set the alarm. 1. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF. 2. While holding down ALARM SET, press and hold down (or repeatedly press) HOUR to set the alarm hour. NOTE: The PM indicator lights for PM hours. 3. While holding down ALARM SET, press and hold down (or repeatedly press) MINUTE to set the alarm minutes. 4. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM as follows. ALARM - The buzzer sounds at the alarm time. AUTO - The radio or cassette player begins playing at the alarm time. To set the radio to begin playing at the alarm time, set TAPE/RADIO to RADIO. To set the cassette player to begin playing at the alarm time, set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE. Then load a cassette tape and press PLAY. At the alarm time, the alarm buzzer sounds or the radio cassette player plays for 1 hour and 59 minutes (or until the cassette tape ends). To silence the buzzer or radio, or turn off the cassette player sooner, press ALARM SET, then (if you play a tape) press STOP. NOTE: When a cassette tape reaches the end, the tape automatically stops and the PLAY button automatically releases. To turn off the alarm so it does not sound the buzzer or turn on the radio or cassette player at the alarm time, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF. To view the current setting for the alarm time, press ALARM SET. USING THE SNOOZE TIMER To silence the alarm (buzzer, radio, or cassette player) and set it to sound again after about 9 minutes, press SNOOZE. You can use this feature repeatedly for up to about 1 hour and 59 minutes. After that, the alarm does not sound again until the next day at the specified alarm time. USING THE SLEEP TIMER You can set the radio or cassette player to play for up to 1 hour and 59 minutes (or until the cassette tape ends), then automatically turn off. To set the radio to play, set TAPE/RADIO to RADIO. To set a cassette tape to play, set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE, load a cassette tape, and press PLAY. To set the sleep timer, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF, AUTO, or ALARM. Then set the playing time. For a playing time of 59 minutes or less, follow these steps. 1. While holding down SLEEP, repeatedly press (or press and hold) MINUTE until the display shows the desired minute setting. 2. Release SLEEP. For a playing time of 1 hour or more, follow these steps. 1. While holding down SLEEP, press and release HOUR. The display shows 1:59. 2. While continuing to hold down SLEEP, repeatedly press (or press and hold) MINUTE until the display shows the desired minute setting. 3. Release SLEEP. The radio or cassette player automatically turns off after the specified play time. To turn off the radio sooner, press SNOOZE. To turn off the cassette player sooner, press STOP. NOTES: If the tape reaches the end before the specified play time is up, the tape automatically stops and the PLAY button automatically releases. If the specified play time is up before the tape reaches the end, the tape stops but the PLAY button does not release. As soon as possible, press STOP to release the PLAY button. This helps protect the tape-handling parts. CONNECTING AN EARPHONE To listen privately, plug an earphone (not supplied) with a 1/8-inch (3.5 mm) plug (such as Cat. No. 33-175) into the earphone jack. This automatically disconnects sound (including the alarm) from the built-in speaker. (CS 11/21/95)
