SCP-75 Stereo Cassette Player with AM/FM Radio (140-1218) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18432 PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Connect the headphones or speakers to the SCP-75. 2. Set RADIO to ON. One of the OPE/BATT indicators lights. 3. Set FM ST/FM/AM to the desired band. Set it to FM ST for stereo sound on FM stations. 4. Rotate TUNING to select the desired radio station. 5. Adjust VOLUME to the desired listening level. NOTES: For the best FM reception, fully uncoil the headphones' (or speakers') cord. The AM antenna is built-in. Move the SCP-75 to improve AM reception. To improve reception for weak FM stereo stations, set FM ST/FM/AM/ to FM. The sound will be mono, but reception should improve. 6. Adjust E-BASS, BASS, and TREBLE to the desired levels (see "Using the Tone Controls"). (below) 7. To turn off the radio, set RADIO to OFF. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Gently pull open the cassette compartment door and insert a pre- recorded cassette into the guides with the exposed tape edge facing out and the side you want to play facing up. Then close the door. 2. Set RADIO to OFF. 3. Set the tape select switch to NORM for normal bias cassette tapes or to CrO2/METAL for chrome or metal cassette tapes. 4. Set DOLBY NR on the back of the SCP-75 to IN if you are playing a cassette tape that was recorded with Dolby B noise reduction (see "Dolby Noise-Reduction"). (below) 5. Set the reverse mode switch to the desired position (see "Using Auto Reverse"). (below) 6. Press PLAY < >. One of the OPE/BATT indicators lights and the tape begins playing. 7. Adjust VOLUME, E-BASS, BASS, and TREBLE to the desired levels (see "Using the Tone Controls"). (below) 8. To stop the tape, press STOP. USING THE TONE CONTROLS You can use the tone controls to customize the SCP-75's sound. TREBLE - slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of high tones, or toward NORM to decrease them. BASS - slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of low tones or toward NORM to decrease them. E-BASS - Slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of tones below normal bass tones, or toward NORM to decrease them. NOTE: If you set E-BASS to MAX, the bass and treble controls have no effect. USING FAST FORWARD AND REWIND When the tape is stopped, press << or >>. To stop the tape before it reaches the end, press STOP. CAUTION: To protect the tape when the tape is fully wound to either end, press STOP to release fast-forward and rewind. SETTING THE TAPE DIRECTION You can change the tape's direction using the FWD/REV switch. To listen to the tape's forward side, set the switch to FWD. To listen to the tape's reverse side, set the switch to REV. USING AUTO-REVERSE The reverse mode switch lets you choose either of the following automatic reverse options: One-Time Playback: Set the reverse mode switch to this position so the cassette player plays one side of the tape, automatically reverses the tape's playback direction, then plays the reverse side of the tape. After the reverse side of the tape plays, the cassette player automatically stops. NOTE: If you set FWD/REV to REV, the cassette player plays only the reverse side and stops at the end of that side. Continuous Playback: Set the reverse mode switch to this position so the cassette player alternately plays each side of the tape until you press STOP. DOLBY NOISE REDUCTION The SCP-75 uses the Dolby B noise reduction system to lower the level of tape hiss when you play a cassette tape recorded with Dolby noise reduction. When the cassette tape was recorded, the recorder's Dolby B noise reduction circuit listened to the program to find places where you might hear tape hiss. The Dolby noise reduction circuit increased the music's volume so these sections were recorded at a higher level to cover tape hiss. When you play a Dolby NR encoded cassette tape and set DOLBY NR to IN, the SCP-75's Dolby noise reduction circuit decreases these sections' volume. (JC 11/8/95)
