To erase an old recording when no new recording is to be placed on the tape, press the red RECORD key and the PLAY key. When using this method to erase, unplug the microphone. ACCIDENTAL ERASURE PREVENTION Cassettes have a built-in device to automatically prevent erasure of a previous recording. It is a small plastic tab at the back of the cassette. To activate the erase-protect feature, break off the plastic tab with a screwdriver. There is a tab for each side; be sure you break off the correct tab. If you do want to record again on that cassette, put a piece of tape over the hole where you broke off the tab. CAUTION: If you have a cassette with the tabs broken off, don't try to force the RECORD key down. You can-damage a part of the mechanism. EARPHONE Use the earphone for private listening. Insert the earphone plug into the EAR jack; the speaker will be automatically silenced and the sound will be heard only through the earphone. AUX. JACK You can make recordings (without the microphone) from an external source. To do this, connect a shielded cable between the AUX jack and the output of a Radio, TV sound, etc. DC 6V JACK You can conserve battery power by using a power adapter such as Radio Shack Catalog Number 14-854 (to connect to a source of 120 volts AC), or 14-844 (to connect to 12 volts DC, in your vehicle or boat, via a cigarette lighter socket). Use the 6VDC jack on the side to connect the adapter plugs. When recording or playing sounds become weak, or tape movement becomes sluggish, replace the batteries. We recommend Radio Shack Catalog Number 23-452, or 23-551 for extra-long-life. (PH 12/6/95)
