For best FM reception, fully extend the FM antenna or the headphone cord. 2. To listen through the radio's built-in speaker, set switch to SPEAKER. To listen through headphones, set it to HEADPHONES. 3. Set POWER OFF/ON to ON to turn on the radio. 4. Set FM ST/FM/AM to the desired band. Note: For weak FM stereo stations, set the switch to FM. You get a mono (monaural) signal, but the reception might improve. 5. Turn TUNING to the desired station. 6. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 7. Set POWER OFF/ON to OFF to turn off the radio. LISTENING SAFELY To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use the radio, especially when wearing headphones. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. TRAFFIC SAFETY Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some out-side sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. (br/all-12/19/94)
