AM/FM Stereo Mate (120-0169) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3722 MANUAL TUNING Follow these steps to manually tune the radio. Warning: To protect your hearing, set the volume control to its lowest setting before you turn on the receiver. 1. Set POWER to ON. 2. Press AM/FM until the desired AM or FM band appears on the display. 3. Press TUNING UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to select the desired station. If you press and hold down either TUNING UP ARROW OR DOWN ARROW for more than 1/2 second, the tuner quickly scans the frequencies. When you release the button, the tuner automatically locks on the next strong station. 4. Adjust VOLUME to the desired listening level. 5. To emphasize bass sounds, set E-BASS IN. To listen to normal sound, set E-BASS OUT. Notes: To save battery power, set POWER to OFF when you are not using your radio. When changing and storing stations, you hear a short beep each time the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW tuning button is pressed. While scanning, you hear a high-pitched tone as you scan up the band and a low-pitched tone as you scan down the band. For best FM reception, fully extend the wire antenna or headphone cord. The AM antenna is built-in. Rotate the receiver to improve AM reception. If you are using headphones and want to improve reception for weak FM stereo signals, set FM MONO/ST to MONO. The sound becomes monaural (mono). To return to stereo sound, set it to ST. STORING STATIONS IN MEMORY You can store one AM and one FM station into each of the six memory positions. Then you can instantly tune to the stored station by selecting the band and pressing the desired memory button. Follow these steps to store a station in memory. 1. Set POWER to ON and select the desired band (AM or FM). 2. Tune to the station you want to store using TUNING UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW. 3. Press MEMORY. MEMORY flashes for 10 seconds. While the display flashes, press the desired memory button (1-6). When you press a memory button to store a frequency, the new frequency replaces any frequency previously stored in that memory location. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to store other frequencies in the current radio band. Repeat the entire procedure to store stations in the other band. MEMORY TUNING To tune to a station you've stored in memory, select the appropriate band and press the desired memory button (1-6). The station is immediately selected and MEMORY remains on the display for 4 seconds before disappearing. USING THE LOCK SWITCH The LOCK switch lets you lock the radio on the current station and disable the tuning controls on the radio. To set your radio to LOCK, slide the switch in the direction of the arrow. You can still adjust the VOLUME, E-BASS, and POWER controls. To release the lock, slide the switch away from LOCK.
