AM/FM Stereo Portable (120-0722A) Power Faxback Doc. # 3836 Radio CONNECTING POWER You can power the radio from internal batteries, standard AC power, or your vehicle's battery power. Using Batteries The radio uses 4 AA batteries. For longest battery life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 23-552. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow, and remove the cover. 2. Insert the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked on the back of the radio. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. Note: If the sound becomes erratic, replace the batteries. Using AC Power To power the radio from AC power, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. No. 273-1454. Caution: You must use an adapter that supplies 6 volts DC power and delivers at least 150 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the radio's DC 6V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. Insert the barrel plug into the radio's 6V DC jack. Then, plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Using Your Vehicle's Battery Power To power the radio from your vehicle's battery power, you need a DC adapter, such as Cat. No. 14-844D. Cautions: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. To protect the vehicle's electrical system, always plug the adapter into the radio before you plug it into the cigarette- lighter socket. Always unplug the adapter from the cigarette- lighter socket before you unplug it from the radio. You must use an adapter that supplies 6 volts DC power and delivers at least 150 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the radio's DC 6V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the radio or the adapter. Follow these steps to power the radio from your vehicle's cigarette- lighter socket. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 6V. 2. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the radio's DC 6V jack. 3. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (br/all-12/28/94)
