CD PLAYER AND CD CARE If the system is subjected to a sudden shock or jolt during play, the CD's rotation speed might suddenly change, the music might be briefly interrupted, or the current track might start over. This is not a malfunction. Remove any loaded CD before you move the CD-3310. Moving the CD-3310 with a loaded CD might damage the CD. Moving the player suddenly from a cold place to a warmer one can cause moisture to form on the pickup lens and disrupt operation. If this happens, wait about 1 hour for the moisture to evaporate before playing a CD. Do not place foreign objects in the CD compartment. Doing so can damage the mechanism. To clean your CDs, use a CD cleaner kit, available at your local Radio Shack store. Although a CD lasts indefinitely with normal use, we recommend the following precautions: Treat the CD surface with care. Handle a CD by the outer edge to avoid fingerprints. In some cases, fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser from correctly reading the digital information. Always keep the CD in its protective case when it is not in use. Keep CDs dry. A drop of moisture can act as a lens and affect the laser beam's focus. Remove moisture with a soft, dry cloth. Be sure CDs are fully dry before you use them. Do not store CDs in high-temperature, high humidity locations. The CDs might warp. USING THE CASSETTE PLAYER You can play your favorite cassette tapes and make recordings with the CD-3310's cassette deck. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Take up any slack in the cassette tape by turning the hub with a pencil. If you do not remove excess slack, the tape might become tangled in the record/playback mechanism. Avoid touching the tape. 2. Insert a cassette tape with the side you want to play facing you, the exposed tape edge down, and the full reel to the left. 5. Close the compartment door. 6. Press PLAY. RECORDING A CASSETTE TAPE You can record from the CD player or radio, or use an external microphone to make a live recording. Notes: The CD-3310's Automatic Level Control (ALC) automatically adjusts the recording level. VOLUME has no effect on recording. Tape quality greatly affects the quality of the recording. We recommend regular length (60-minute or 90-minute) cassette tapes. Long-play cassette tapes such as C-120s are not recommended because they are thin and easily tangle. For low-noise, wide- range recordings, use normal-bias tape. Before you load a cassette tape for recording, turn the cassette's hub with your finger or a pencil to move the tape past its leader. Caution: If you try to record on a cassette tape that has had the erase- protection tabs removed, you cannot press down RECORD. Do not force it, as this can damage the mechanism. Before recording, be sure the erase-protection tabs are in place on the cassette tape you are using to record. To temporarily stop recording, press PAUSE. Press PAUSE again to resume recording.
