Using Batteries

You can power the System 729 from nine D batteries (not supplied).  For
the best results, we recommend alkaline batteries (such as Radio Shack
Cat. No. 23-650 and 23-550).

1.  If the System 729 is on, set FUNCTION to RADIO/CD OFF to turn it off.

2.  Press down on the tabs above the battery compartment cover on the back
    of the System 729 and pull the cover down to remove it.
    
3.  Remove any old batteries from the compartment.

    CAUTION:  Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.  Do
              not bury or burn them.

4.  Install nine D batteries in the compartment as indicated by the
    polarity symbol (+ and -) marked outside the compartment.

    CAUTIONS:  Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type.

               Never mix fresh with old batteries.

5.  Replace the battery compartment cover.

    If the System 729 does not operate properly, or if the sound weakens
    or distorts, replace the batteries.

CAUTIONS:  Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in the System 729.
           Batteries can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic
           circuits.

           If you do not plan to use batteries in the System 729 for a
           month or more, remove the batteries to protect the System 729
           from possible battery leakage.
