CTR-96 Voice Activated Compact Cassette Recorder (140-1105) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 32666 ERASING A RECORDING If you want to erase an entire cassette or a portion of a recording, insert the special dummy plug (provided) into the MIC jack. Then operate the CTR- 96 as though you were recording, with VOX/TONE set to OUT. As the tape moves, it is erased. Use the tape counter to be sure you erase the right portion. Or, you can quickly erase both sides of a cassette tape using a bulk tape eraser, available at your local Radio Shack store. ERASE-PROTECTION TABS The cassette has two small plastic tabs on its back edge, one for each side of the tape, to prevent accidental erasure. (This does not prevent erasure using a bulk tape eraser.) If you break off the Side A tab, you cannot record on Side A. If you break off the Side B tab, you cannot record on Side B. If you want to record on a side after you have removed the tab, cover that side's tab hole with a piece of tape. RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape might become tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, then completely rewind it. Then, loosen the tape reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat surface. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not couch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette. (br/all-05/10/96)
