CTR-96 Voice Activated Compact Cassette Recorder (140-1105) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 32667 Your CTR-96 Voice Activated Cassette Tape Recorder is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the CTR-96 so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the CTR-96 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the CTR-96 only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the CTR-96 gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the recorder to work improperly. Keep the CTR-96 away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the CTR-96 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the recorder. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits. Modifying or tampering with the CTR-96's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the CTR-96's warranty. If your CTR-96 is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. CLEANING THE TAPE HANDLING PARTS Dirt or particles of the tape's coating can accumulate on the tape heads and the other parts that the tape touches as it moves. This material can greatly reduce the performance of your recorder, so you should clean these parts after approximately every 20 hours of operation. 1. Remove the batteries and disconnect all power sources (Batteries and/or adapters). 2. Lift open the cassette compartment lid. 3. Press PLAY. The tape head assembly moves out. 4. Use a cotton swab dipped in tape head cleaner or denatured alcohol to clean the parts. All cleaning materials are available from your local Radio Shack store. CAUTIONS: Never touch the front surface of the record/playback head with any metallic object. Do not use a tape demagnetizer on this product because such demagnetizers can impair operation of the permanent magnet erasing device. (br/all-05/10/96)
