TRAINING THE REMOTE CONTROL

You can use your STAV-3400 remote control instead of the remote control
for other audio/video components.  To do this, you must teach your
STAV-3400 remote control commands from the remotes for your other
components.

This unit will be referred to as the Universal Remote Control or URC.  The
remote controls for the other components will be referred to as simply the
remote control.

USING PREPROGRAMMED SIGNAL FORMATS

Your URC is preprogrammed with 12 common remote control signal formats for
basic TV and VCR functions.  These signal formats are used by TVs and VCRs
made by many major manufacturers.  This means that your STAV-3400's URC
might already work with your TV or VCR, if you just tell it which signal
format to use.

NOTE:  The URC does not operate buttons which your VCR and TV remote
       controls do not have.

Follow these steps to use the preprogrammed signal formats.

1.  Press EDIT with a pointed object.  VCR 1, VCR 2, and TV CONTROL MODE
    flash in sequence.

2.  Within 1 minute, press the control mode button (VCR 1, VCR 2, or TV)
    you want to set.

3.  Enter the number from the chart above which corresponds to your
    device's brand.  All CONTROL MODE buttons flash in sequence.  Then
    VCR 1, VCR 2, and TV CONTROL mode flash in order.

4.  To exit this mode, press EDIT or wait 1 minute.

NOTES:

*  Some brands have more than one number listed.  If the URC does not
   control your device after you try the first selection, try the other
   selections.

*  If none of the selections control your device, or if you want to use
   the remote control with something other than a TV or VCR, see "Teaching
   The URC Commands."
